So another day, another paycheck-and there are some smart buys in here, believe me!

Let’s start out from the treasures at work. I picked up:
A pair of camel high-waisted shorts
Three sweaters and two dress shirts for my boyfriend-they’d been marked to $5 each!
A sequinned jacket
A feathered earring and necklace pairing
Two packs of white flower hairclips
A floral short-sleeve puff-shoulder shirt
Leopard-print flats

Total damage, between all that? Under $80.

But I wasn’t done with shoes yet! I went Payless-hunting for Champion’s offshoot of the FitFlop, which is priced at $25-I went all the way to Burien for them! And since it was BOGO, I got a pair of jewel-detail flats for a whopping $4. I’m replacing all my shoes for the most part, so it’s nice to fill the closets for cheap. Hopefully the Champion flats work as well as the others I own…

Beauty-wise, I did damage. I broke my NP no-buy a week and change early, with several polishes, and added EVEN MORE!:
OPI Crimson Carol
OPI Bronzed to Perfection
Essie Splash of Grenadine
Essie Lapis of Luxury
Essie Turquoise & Caicos
Essie Sexy Divide
Sephora OPI Just A Fairy-Tail
Sephora OPI It’s Bouquet With Me
Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond
China Glaze Watermelon Rind
China Glaze Sexy in the City
China Glaze Frostbite

All of that was just under $60, however I’ve been blessed with more hours and more hours=more money. I also picked up two little bottles for mixing polishes to get my own shades-so far, I have a lovely creamy yellow with a hint of frost. I also just made up a gorgeous orange, mixing OPI In My Back Pocket, Atomic Orange, and DS Treasure. I may add a little bit more of Treasure, as it’s not great on its own but with polishes like this it rocks.

At MAC, I did NOT get the glosses or blushes, like how I intended! Shocker, I know. I did pick up Luscious Spark Dazzleglass Creme (which I absolutely love-it turns Show Orchid into a gorgeous red, and on its own it is so non-sticky and lovely), as well as pans of Goldenrod and Parfait Amour. I need a new palette, though-I have run out of space on my current pair of quads. My 15-pan is still lost (aka somewhere in my bottomless pit), but I’m trying to find it as of NOW.

I hit TJ Maxx also in search of some great newbies, but nothing cosmetic wise or nail wise. I did, though, find a bottle of Sexy Hair’s Flip It Over for $9, and then for $20 I finally got a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. It’s definitely different than L, in a good way. It’s more summery, more floral. I’m a Lolita Lempicka fanatic, though, so of course I would love it!

Nordstrom Rack led me to leave with two things. First up was a totally-rhinestoned Betsey Johnson headband for $11. Score! The other was a set of three Stila mini smudge pots, with a brush, for $13. Can’t complain there, now can we?

I am saving money though, as my birthday is a week from Sunday and I need money to buy my fancy meals, hit the outlets, and more. Woot!

The ULTA Coupon Haul

25 October, 2009

First off, my apologies about the lack of content lately. I haven’t had paychecks coming, and I’ve been working like a fiend at the store-over 45 hours last week. Oy my.

Anywhoo, I got a coupon in the mail for 20% off my entire ULTA purchase. They typically do this right before Halloween, and it’s good because it’s everything except for clearances, fragrance, and then some skincare. Who cares though, you can save on prestige makeup, and I almost prefer this to the Sephora sale because with this, I can just go right in the store, and they have Bourjois, NP, and so forth. Works like a charm! And with a paycheck in the bank-it’s time to celebrate.

First up, I got something I’ve been eyeing for three months: Benefit’s Some Kind-a Gorgeous. It’s a cream-to-powder formula “foundation faker” that is designed to even things out without caking on the foundation. The compact itself is nice-it’s a plastic case designed to look like an old-school record. It is mirrored, and then the actual makeup part lifts up and there’s a sponge hidden underneath for application of the product. I tried it on some spots, and I was impressed-I will do a full review once I can do a full-face test of the product, to see how it works out.

Next up was my second China Glaze-Cherry Pie. (I almost thought it was Ruby Slippers) I haven’t tried it on the nails yet-in fact, I still have polishes from my Trade Secret haul a few weeks ago that I haven’t opened yet. This looks to be a brighter, sparklier version of Friar Friar Pants on Fire (my HG OPI polish) and if the wear on this is anything like Orange Marmalade, I will be a huge fan. This was a clearance buy, so I didn’t save any more, but still? $4 is damn good for a polish. Read the rest of this entry »

The $50 Haul (Seriously!)

6 October, 2009

Yes, I seriously had a large haul for $50, and not one item was a drugstore/low-end beauty item! I had just received money, and figure since I’m starting my new job on Thursday (go me!), I need some fun things. Problem is, I don’t want a ton of makeup-makeup. So the next best thing? Everything else.

First up was TJ Maxx-and they have an insane perfume selection. They have some up by the register that people get into more, and up there is where I found what I got (more on that later). In the jewelry case, though, there are other fragrances-Escada Ocean Lounge, Juicy Couture, a few refill bottles for the Angel Garden of Stars fragrances, and so forth. I almost got Pivoine Angel, but instead I sprung for the bottle of Salvatore Ferragamo’s Incanto Heaven, as it was $20, and I am very pleased. It is a fruity-floral, but a more sophisticated one. I can definitely pick up raspberry from this!

Next up, ULTA. First up, OPI was B2G1 free, but the only one I really wanted was La Paz-Itively Hot, in the matte edition. I did find a lot of OPI clearances though. I almost got I’m His Coral-Friend, but they had a lot of that so I got If The Fuschia Fits, which is like a lot that I already own but hey, it was cheap. I also got my very first China Glaze-I got Orange Marmalade, which is totally my sort of colour. They had a Pop Beauty Glitter Stix in Silver for $1, so figured that would be a good way to spend some money. I’m coming back once I have a paycheck to get some more things-some Bourjois Ombre Stretch eyeshadows, a BE shadow and a Smashbox lip thing that were on clearance, and so forth. Finally, I picked up a can of Sexy Hair’s Root Pump Plus. For BCA Month, Sexy Hair has packaged their Root Pump, Root Pump Plus, Spray & Play, and Spray & Play Harder in pink packaging, and ULTA currently has them for $6 apiece. Yes, $6. I will be stocking up. Total for all that, with $5 off coupon? Just over $20.

Oh, and a PSA: Jaqua has a brand new line out which is their “BFF”-Buttercream Frosting Forever. One of the fragrances is an orange. *drools* Also, if you need an extra-lengthening mascara, go for the Bourjois Coup de Theatre 2/1. ULTA has a deal where you get the mascara and their black/white kohl pencil for $25. Read the rest of this entry »

For many years, TJ Maxx was a place I frequented a lot. The fashions were fairly inexpensive, I could get my preferred thong underwear for $2 a pair (lesson learned: Buy VS Cotton v-strings), and it was a very non-intimidating atmosphere. However, fashion-wise, many of the items were, well, things I would not touch. They were either so overly trendy that they would have no place in my wardrobe, which does follow trends but has to stay relatively timeless, or they were “urban brands”-Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, JLO (thank God that folded), and their ilk. So I stayed away.

What you may not know though is that they are a top destination for discounted beauty as well. I have heard of some stores getting in NARS, but I didn’t see any of that. However, there are insane bargains to be had here, and they are consistently bringing in more high-end stuff at lower prices. Saving money=always good!

On the makeup side, at one of the stores I went to they just had a few Essie polishes and then some ModelCo stuff. Nothing particularly great, although there were single shadows, and today, they had these lipstick/tooth whitener duos marked down to $3. I don’t have cash for discretionary spending at this time, however it’s a fun thing. They had an UD Sparkler pen for $2, although it was missing a cap. No thanks! At the store by the mall I used to work at, however, they had a ton of Lancome. There was Avant Gold and another couple shadows, for $6 each. They also had Artliners and then a few face products, as well as a little sampler of Juicy Tubes. There was some Paula Dorf (a wallet with a little lip palette) and then some Jaqua glosses (as in, Raspberry Buttercream Frosting, my favourite scent ever seemingly), the latter of which were a whopping $4. Elizabeth Arden had a lot of things there too, including the 8 Hour Cream for $15.

The best deal, however, was an Urban Decay deal-and it was their Heavy Metal box from 2007. You get a full-size Metalhead liner AND a full-size Power Ballad HM gel…for $4. Yes, $4. I almost bought them out completely of that, as Metalhead is a much-used liner of mine. Read the rest of this entry »
