Sephora Black Friday Deals

25 November, 2011

Okay so first off-no sighting of an ULTA ad yet, and no word on WHAT is in the VS GWP tote. I’m skipping as it’s a $65 buy-in, and I could use the money instead on Blacklist items at work, or Christmas presents.

Anywhoo, Sephora has the 10 for $10 today, and it’s a doozy. The deals are the following:

Kat Von D Adora perfume
Stila Glitz & Glam palette, with Raisin lip glaze
Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara and mini MultiplEYE primer
Korres Guava lip butter (full-size) and mini body butter
Sephora Collection mini brush set
Bare Minerals trio-Glee all-over colour, a tapered blush brush, and full-size Rouge gloss
Art of Shaving 4 Elements gift set (pre-shave oil, shave cream, after-shave balm, and shaving brush) in the Lavender variety
Josie Maran Petal Pink Argan Colour Stick
Buxom Lash mascara/Chocolate Citrine eyeliner
Tokidoki Cromatico eyeshadow palettes

I’m definitely interested in the perfume; I’ll have to mosey three doors down on my lunch to see if it’s worth me buying! I’m also maybe getting one of the shadow palettes. I need more shadow like I need a hole in the head-but Adieu looks up my alley.

When I was at Urban Outfitters, doing my traditional pre-vacation visit (go within a week before, buy some accessories on sale), I happened upon the makeup. They had some of the Stila shadow palettes, the ones where it looks like a snowflake, for $5. Then I saw one of the mini palettes-the four shadows with a convertible cream-and snatched it up. Sure, it had been opened (the convertible cream looked kind of funky, but just a little sanitizer-not to mention it’ll be cheeks only, and a couple shadows had fingernail marks but no biggie), but I couldn’t pass it up for $2.

There are four shadows in there: R&R, Escape, Palm, and Wave. I am definitely a fan of the look of it, it’s great for summery looks with an accent, or to go with other different things. Then the convertible colour, Plumeria, is a bronzey shade.

So was it worth the $2? Read the rest of this entry »

New ULTA Ad: 8-28 August

10 August, 2010

So I haven’t gotten an ULTA ad in ages, and the only thing I had received recently was my latest coupon (which I used well-I have reviews coming soon on the Cargo mini set). But I figured this was because they have the latest rewards coupons. Again, I am level four, but I’m probably just going to use it on a nail polish. The nice thing is that the rewards certificate is valid through the middle of September, so if you are wanting to use it on nail polish you are actually best holding off on it until the next ad comes, because there might just be a deal (ie B2G1 free) on OPI or Essie. There is an OPI mini set with a $10 OPI purchase-it has minis of Brisbane Bronze, Bogota Blackberry, and Black Cherry Chutney-but I hate the OPI minis. Brisbane Bronze and Black Cherry Chutney, especially, are staple polishes for me that I can’t imagine being without. (Russian Navy is in there; it’s my lucky colour. I wore it when I got my current job, and when I wore it today I had my best performance probably EVER. Definitely a lucky colour if there ever was one)

It’s another bag with fragrance purchase thing-this time, it’s a weekender in white, pink, or teal with a black jacquard print. I like it, but honestly a) I never am away from home, and b) I have enough suitcases already. There are lots of newbies though-JPG Classique X, Benefit’s new three (So Hooked on Camella; which is a floral with vanilla, Lookin to Rock Rita; a green fruity, and Garden of Good and Eva; a citrus floral). The ad had a sample of Camella, which I actually really like. It’s VERY similar to VS Dream Angels Halo, which is a recent love of mine. This is my summer frag for 2010, and the Benefit fragrances aren’t too out of reach (granted, it’s just a one ounce EDT but $36 is reasonable IMO) so I may have to get it once I run down on something. There’s also the Daisy Pop Art edition, which is basically a red bottle with black flowers. Calvin Klein has new Eternity Aqua for men, Philosophy has Eternal Grace (which I may need to give a try), Blumarine has new Blugirl, and more.

There are also more bag with purchase deals-a $75 Ed Hardy fragrance purchase will get you either a tote (ladies) or backpack (men’s), a $70 women’s purchase will get you a clutch with minis or a $65 of men’s will get you a “flight bag” with minis of CK Eternity, and a $58 DKNY Be Delicious purchase will get you a tote. Lots of value sets also, nothing really that new or interesting except the Princess one, where for $65 you get the 1.7 ounce EDT, a body lotion, and a lipgloss keychain with a mini bag.

It’s the time of year for the ULTA brand GWP-with a 17.50 purchase of the cosmetics, beauty tools, or minerals, you get a gift in your choice of purple or green. Each has two shadow quads, two polishes, a dual-ended lipgloss, a dual-ended eye pencil, a blush, a bronzer, a lipstick, a mirror, four brushes (sponge-tip eye, eye shader, powder, angled blush…all long-bristled), and the bag. There are also new ULTA brand items-mousse blushes, compact foundations, Legendary Lengths mascara, gel liners, and cream shadows. My mum uses some of the stuff from hers from last year, although I avoid the ULTA brand stuff since my skin got kinda irritated. What can I say, it’s picky skin. Read the rest of this entry »

Released back in the fall of 09, I happened to just pick these up on sale at ULTA. I had wanted to get them back when they came out, but I was still out of work at that time so I was SOL. But getting them for half off now? Heck, yes.

Anyways, there were three colours that came out with the collection: Purple Pumps; which was a bright purple with pink shimmer, Cobalt Clutch; a royal blue with shimmer, and Little Black Dress; a black with shimmer. I got Purple Pumps and Cobalt Clutch, and well, let’s just say this: they’re pretty.

The thing that is nice about the Smudge Pots is their versatility. They can be used as a cream shadow, but I prefer them as a liner. I find that as a cream shadow, they’re way too hard to blend, and not only that but they just absorb whatever colour is on top of them. I tried doing a look with Purple Pumps as the base, MAC Parfait Amour as the middle lid, and MAC Crystal as the inner-and well, I didn’t get much. Still, though, as a liner these are absolutely gorgeous because they are bright, shimmery, and pretty. The lasting power is also great-they last all day with no need for a touch-up whatsoever. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan.

Ease of use, though, is a different story. I’m used to the creaminess of a MAC fluidline, so the fact that these are not like that annoys me a bit. It’s hard to get my 210 into my Cobalt Clutch, although it worked fine with Purple Pumps. Again, the fact that I can’t use these as a base-or really blend them-also annoys me. From what I have also heard, these can tend to dry out fast, but the thing that helps me is storing them upside-down, so that any moisture goes to the bottom, erm the top.

Don’t let that deter you, though, because as a liner these are insanely gorgeous. I didn’t get into MAC’s fluidlines until very recently, so I do not know if there was a shade exactly like either one of these. I do like gel/cream liners anyways better than pencils or liquids, so these are the sorts of things I need.

Birthday Hauling

3 May, 2010

One thing that has become a birthday tradition for me? Hitting the outlets. I normally try to go at least every other month, but that hasn’t happened due to crazy work schedules! This time, it was nice because the whole family got to go along, so all was well.

First off, let’s start out with the big thing: my diamond ring. I actually got two rings-one from my boyfriend, one from my parents. The one from my boyfriend is a three-stone tanzanite ring, and it’s got an impact (it is tanzanite after all) without being too much as I can’t do a big ring at all. The other one-the one from the parents-is insane. It’s blue and white diamonds, I think 18 little pave-set ones of each, and it’s a looping pattern of sorts. I had the choice of that or one with channel-set rubies-and I may get the rubies eventually, but I loved the blue diamonds. It’s also something that I have never had, and I’ve only seen blues in real life ONCE. I don’t typically do diamonds-so this is insane. Best of all? It was a great clearance deal, marked down from $700 to just under $200.

The CCO is a natural place to hit-but the one thing I wanted (the MAC Brush with Style set) was not there. However, I did get a backup for Aquavert (as I am close to hitting pan on it), as well as Porcelain Pink MSF and then the Fun in the Sun mineralize kit. I was excited about the Mineralize kit as I had wanted it for Christmas-it has a 181SE, a Play on Plums MES (which I already have and admittedly never use), a Nuance MB, and a Shimpagne MSF. That brings my total MSF count up to 8, and I could have gotten a couple more Colour Craft ones but I held off. The funny thing was that there wasn’t a ton of stuff there that I actually would have bought, but there were many things that I would totally buy backups of (On A Mission blush, Stop Look Dazzleglass, Luscious Spark Dazzleglass Creme).

There also is one of those little perfume stores, and while they didn’t have any deals on perfumes I wanted, they did have a rack of testers that they were selling. I got a small bottle of Moschino Funny that is about 65% full for 8, and then a bottle of Fendi Palazzo that is about 85% full for $30. I’m liking them both-they’ve both got some citrus to them-and at the prices I paid, it’s okay if I don’t use it a ton. The bottles are also nice also, so I may be getting more testers in the future. So another day, another paycheck-and there are some smart buys in here, believe me!

Let’s start out from the treasures at work. I picked up:
A pair of camel high-waisted shorts
Three sweaters and two dress shirts for my boyfriend-they’d been marked to $5 each!
A sequinned jacket
A feathered earring and necklace pairing
Two packs of white flower hairclips
A floral short-sleeve puff-shoulder shirt
Leopard-print flats

Total damage, between all that? Under $80.

But I wasn’t done with shoes yet! I went Payless-hunting for Champion’s offshoot of the FitFlop, which is priced at $25-I went all the way to Burien for them! And since it was BOGO, I got a pair of jewel-detail flats for a whopping $4. I’m replacing all my shoes for the most part, so it’s nice to fill the closets for cheap. Hopefully the Champion flats work as well as the others I own…

Beauty-wise, I did damage. I broke my NP no-buy a week and change early, with several polishes, and added EVEN MORE!:
OPI Crimson Carol
OPI Bronzed to Perfection
Essie Splash of Grenadine
Essie Lapis of Luxury
Essie Turquoise & Caicos
Essie Sexy Divide
Sephora OPI Just A Fairy-Tail
Sephora OPI It’s Bouquet With Me
Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond
China Glaze Watermelon Rind
China Glaze Sexy in the City
China Glaze Frostbite

All of that was just under $60, however I’ve been blessed with more hours and more hours=more money. I also picked up two little bottles for mixing polishes to get my own shades-so far, I have a lovely creamy yellow with a hint of frost. I also just made up a gorgeous orange, mixing OPI In My Back Pocket, Atomic Orange, and DS Treasure. I may add a little bit more of Treasure, as it’s not great on its own but with polishes like this it rocks.

At MAC, I did NOT get the glosses or blushes, like how I intended! Shocker, I know. I did pick up Luscious Spark Dazzleglass Creme (which I absolutely love-it turns Show Orchid into a gorgeous red, and on its own it is so non-sticky and lovely), as well as pans of Goldenrod and Parfait Amour. I need a new palette, though-I have run out of space on my current pair of quads. My 15-pan is still lost (aka somewhere in my bottomless pit), but I’m trying to find it as of NOW.

I hit TJ Maxx also in search of some great newbies, but nothing cosmetic wise or nail wise. I did, though, find a bottle of Sexy Hair’s Flip It Over for $9, and then for $20 I finally got a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. It’s definitely different than L, in a good way. It’s more summery, more floral. I’m a Lolita Lempicka fanatic, though, so of course I would love it!

Nordstrom Rack led me to leave with two things. First up was a totally-rhinestoned Betsey Johnson headband for $11. Score! The other was a set of three Stila mini smudge pots, with a brush, for $13. Can’t complain there, now can we?

I am saving money though, as my birthday is a week from Sunday and I need money to buy my fancy meals, hit the outlets, and more. Woot!
