Shop MAC: 9 Feb 2012

8 February, 2012

Here’s the second part of the big spring launch-Shop MAC. Like Cook MAC, there’s one thing that I’m super stoked about in this. We’re talking the repromotes of Optimistic Orange and Florida-the Cremeblend blushes! I love Florida, it’s a great blusher and I missed out on Optimistic Orange. That won’t be happening again though; I will have this.

They’re joined by Restores Dazzle, a pinky-plum that’s definitely a lot more universal. Be warned: Florida is BRIGHT, and a little goes a long way. It also is best to be applied under foundation or any powders. Otherwise, though-it’s amazing. Come to think of it, I need a second one…

The linchpin of this collection seems to be the trio of eyeshadow quads. I haven’t bought one since Rose is a Rose-although I still have my mum’s In The Gallery quad. (Notably, I haven’t used it in a long time. Maybe sneak it back to her? Nah) I really wish these were available as solo shades though, because I’m not paying $38 for just the Colour Added or Power Boosted shadows. Stick those in a quad with Pre-Packaged and Fresh Daisy, and then we’d be talkin’. Read the rest of this entry »

Cook MAC: 9 Feb 2012

8 February, 2012

So this is up online-but a lot of the products are listed as “coming soon”. Odd…

Anyways, this is the big spring launch, and I have to say, I like it! I’ve heard inklings of controversy (promoting antiquated gender roles, stereotyping), but honestly, it’s very much a collection of on-trend colours and fashion will always have an aspect of kitsch as well as a tongue-in-cheek attitude. You just gotta poke fun at stuff sometimes!

This is the first one, and I’m doing it opposite of normal. Normally, I’d do the cosmetics first, but I wanted to do the other stuff for one reason: the nail polishes: See, my company has a super-exclusive line that I adore. Well…they are getting a bunch of garments IN THE COLOURS of the polishes. Orange coat, teal/orange skirt, lime green dress…all of which I need in my life. The polishes are $16 (eep!), so getting all three is definitely NOT going to happen. However, Al Fredo (bright acid green) will be MINE. I have a lot similar to Kid Orange already, and as for Salad Dressing? I may have to skip something else to get it. I honestly don’t have a lot of aquas, and it’s really interesting as it is on the darker side. Choices, choices… Read the rest of this entry »

MAC/Vera: 9 Feb 2012

8 February, 2012

Two new collections up today, and both have a few interesting things! First up is MAC/Vera. No, not Vera Wang or Vera Bradley, but Vera Neumann, a textile designer.

The collection is a very eye-heavy one, but it’s got great things. First up, can we talk Pearlglides? Sure, there’s nothing new. But these pencils are among my favourites, and if I need a go-to lower liner, then this is one of them. (If I am not using my magenta Chromagraphic pencil, that is). This go around, there’s:
Lord It Up-Bronze with pearl
Industrial-Blue-grey with pearl
Undercurrent-Teal with pearl
Designer Purple-Violet with pearl
Petrol Blue-Blue with pearl
Blackline-Black with gold pearl
Black Swan-Black with pearl

These are retailing for $15 nowadays. Read the rest of this entry »

MAC Shop: February 2012

20 January, 2012

I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile, but as usual, I forget and life gets in the way:)

Anyways, the big collection coming this February is MAC Shop (or Store). It’s a very kitschy collection, a grocery-store theme with a lot of bright colours. From the shots I’ve seen, it’s similar to Barbie-right down to the models (the exact same ones, five years later). Think that, with the size of Spring Colour Forecast or Makeup Art Cosmetics.

Selected stores will have unveilings. The one at my mall isn’t, but one of the girls showed me the postcard from another store. They’re pretty cool! I’m dying for the pistachio-shaded stuff…nom nom. They are doing a weekend event though, as always happens (but I don’t need those as I don’t like other people doing my makeup).

More word on the collection goods shortly. I have a giftcard for it; my dad bought my Blush Ombres so I have a giftcard waiting for me at the store for $52 worth of goods. I’m definitely saving it for this, because there’s got to be some good stuff.

New Urban Decay Liners

12 January, 2012

Sorry for not getting this up earlier-I’ve been having troubles with Firefox, but now they’re worked out so good times:)

Anywhoo, Urban Decay started the spring product blitz with three new 24/7 pencil liners. These won’t be in-store for awhile-I’d say a month-but they’re trying to do more online pre-releases this year so that’s why. What better way to start out than to add new shades of liners? Not much of a better way, I’d say.

Joining the ranks is the all-new Perversion liner-the blackest black matte eye pencil. For a lot of people, this is something that they will love. Me? I don’t use black eye pencil-and rarely black eyeliner. If you were someone who found Zero to not be intense enough for you-then this will be a must-have.

Also coming are two other ones: Demolition and Woodstock. Demolition is yet another brown, but it’s a matte which is something that I always love (if I don’t want to break out my 210 and Inglot 88), while Woodstock is a sparkly bright pink. I need to find my pink Chromagraphic pencil, but even with that this may be making its way into my stash sooner rather than later.

As I said earlier-they’re now on the UD website. More spring stuff will follow, and I’d say that mid-February will be the time when they’re in store.

New Zoya Spring 2012

6 January, 2012

With the recent Zoya promo that has come out (two free polishes with code ZOYA2012, just pay shipping…I got Jo and Ibiza), it means one other thing: new collections for the spring! They’re currently available for preorder on the site, so you can’t use the promo on them-but no matter, I’ll end up with some of them anyways.

Before I start, a nice note: on the Zoya site, you click on each polish and it has the opacity on a 1-5 scale, as well as the colour family, the finish, and colour tone. That’s not something you see often enough, so yay on them! It’s especially good because Zoya, for the most part, is not readily available as far as the good stuff goes. So for my colours, I’ll have the terms from the site paraphrased.

Cho-Warm peachy beige cream with a fine silver shimmer. Hits a 5 on the opacity scale.
Farah-Warm neutral beige cream with greenish undertones. Hits a 5 on the opacity scale.
Bevin-Dusty teal-toned sage creen cream. Also hits a 5 on the opacity scale.
Skylar-Dusty steel blue with gold/silver flecks. Hits a 5 on the opacity scale.
Tru-Reddish-grape with colour-shift shimmer (gold, orange, red). Hits a 5 on the opacity scale.
Lotus-Dusty blurple with colour-shift shimmer (pink, red, gold). Also a 5 on opacity.

The other thing: Fleck Effect glazes-also known as Mylar. Yes, Zoya is doing the flakies-although I have to say one thing: better late than never. These are all very sheer-but that’s the point: to use these as a topper, as opposed to on their own. The three colours are:
Maisie-Sheer blue with blue-green flakes
Chloe-Sheer warm pink with tarnished gold-blue and red-orange flakes
Opal-Sheer apple green with green-blue flakes

Because the promo for the polishes ends on the 9nd (Monday, these will be available for order on the 10th. I’m excited to see them at ULTA!

I can’t believe I missed out on these-no longer! For Spring, Urban Decay has three new shadow boxes, each with a 24/7 liner and a mini Primer Potion at a retail of $34. They are: Fun, Feminine, and Dangerous. Admittedly, I want all three:)

First up is the Dangerous shadow box. Mildew, Rockstar, Oil Slick, and Gunmetal are permanent shades appearing in this, however there is also Haight (one of the Sephora exclusives) and Virgin (from the Naked shadow box). There’s also a mini Rockstar 24/7 liner (yay, something besides Zero and Bourbon), as well as the Greed primer potion (the new one). I like how dangeorus does not equal a smokey eye, and while you can do one with this it’s more of a twist-having the darker brights.

The Feminine one has Stray Dog, SWF, Midnight Cowboy, Aquarius, Darkhorse, and Ecstacy. I believe Darkhorse is from the Naked shadow box, while Aquarius is another exclusive. It also has Eden primer potion (the matte) and Zero liner. This is a very versatile option in my opinion-you have your lights, a brown, and then two colours. I would probably use this the least, because I’d be buying this mainly for the two brights and I have Ecstacy in the Book of Shadows 2.

Finally, there is the Fun shadow box-definitely more my speed. There’s Woodstock and Psychadelic Sister (from the Sephora exclusives), plus Uzi, Sin, Baked, and my all-time favourite, Flipside. This is a very nice set-but the only one that I don’t already own in some form is Woodstock. You get Oil Slick pencil and a mini of the original primer potion with this, though.

All in all, these are nice, and great for travel (I hate traveling with my Book of Shadows, because they take up so much space in my purse), but for a lot of diehard UD fans these are not necessarily the latest and greatest.
