Alrighty, so here’s some swatches of some notable things that I saw at ULTA today, as well as other general tidbits.

Urban Decay had a lot of the new summer stuff-the tinted moisturizers, the setting spray, the Summer of Love shadow box, and the new Pocket Rockets and Primer Potion. The Primer Potion coating on the bottle-that matte nude paint-chips off easily, for what it’s worth. I also finally got to swatch Eldorado and it’s one gold liner that I could see myself actually using a bit. The Pocket Rockets? Meh. Not a huge fan of the nude men, and don’t like the colours either.

Smashbox had their summer collection, and the lipglosses in the set are TINY. Maybe about an inch long tube, as far as the part that holds the liploss goes. I have heels that are higher than these tubes are long. The eye primer is awesome, though, and the cheek duo can’t be missed-very natural looking, with lasting power as well. I’m a huge fan.

Napoleon Perdis apparently has a bronze set for $39 with a bronzer, a brush, and something else. Couldn’t see the Astro Girl quads, else I would have swatched them for you all.

The new Essies and OPIs are out-we’re talking the Essie Summer collection, and OPI Summer Flutter. The Summer Flutters will be done in another post:) Also, they had some CHI polishes on clearance for $5-nothing particularly exciting, but still looks decent.

They also had the new Too Faced stuff, but I didn’t get to try it. The new Benefit Pore Fessional was up at the registers.

Finally, the grill/cooler set? The grill is tiny-you could maybe fit four burgers on there, if that. It’s also coated to prevent rusting, meaning be very careful with it as it could stain (their disclaimer, not mine). The cooler is decent sized though-I think it’s an unusual yet fun set for the beach.

Now for the swatches!

Top: The Smashbox set of glosses
Below that: Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, Smashbox High Lights/Creamy Cheek duo, Urban Decay Eden primer potion

The Cargo Swimmables set, UD Eldorado liner, UD Colin and Max Pocket Rocket glosses

So it’s the Dad’s Day edition, and of course you know there’s going to be a gift offer-and this one, it’s cool: a free cooler with mini grill with a fragrance purchase of $30 or more. Look at it this way: if they have the Juicy rollerballs, that’s essentially two of those, and you get the grill for free. Very nice.

We start off with the good makeup, as Bare Minerals has a starter kit for $20 that has the original and matte foundations, plus Warmth all-over colour and a mineral veil and a mini brush. There’s six shades to choose from. Inside, there’s a few new things. Urban Decay now has rolled out the Eden Primer Potion-a matte nude. OPI has a duo of Feelin’ Hot-Hot-Hot! plus topcoat as well as a mini purse for $6, while Stila has a new 6-shade Artist palette for $28. Lorac has new Multiplex glosses, including ULTA-Glam, an ULTA exclusive colour, for $22. They supposedly have holographic pigments, so I am definitely interested in putting these to the test. Essie has rolled out the new Summer collection, and they are B2G1 free. Benefit has a new primer product, The Pore-Fessional, which is supposed to be a pore minimizer. It retails for the typical price point (for Benefit) of $28. The ULTA Professional nail line has a free base or top coat with purchase of colour polish, also.

There’s a deal, also, at ULTA’s that have the Benefit Brow Bars-get a brow arch for $20, and you get your choice of Fishnets or Low Profile eyeshadows free. Too bad we don’t have a brow bar near here…

Smashbox has their summer collection, Naked Beauty, which I will do a more in-depth piece on in the coming days. There’s Golden Nude in the Photo Finish Lid Primer, a duo of High Lights and a Creamy Cheek colour, a Halo bronzer, and a little coffret of 8 lipglosses. On the note of sun stuff, Pur Minerals has a self-tanning lotion that is 2/$25-normally $22 EACH, and Cargo still has the Get Wet kit, which is a full-size mascara, a waterproof bronzer, and three eyeliners in bright shades for the summer for $32. I am a huge fan of Cargo products, and this is one that to me is a can’t miss. Read the rest of this entry »

New ULTA Ad: 21 Feb-13 March

23 February, 2010

Sorry this is so late, my energy has been pretty much nonexistent lately. Alas, here are the new deals!

For those of you who are ULTA club members, this is when you get your rewards certificate. I could have SWORN I was at least at level 6 but nope, only level 5 for me:( On the cover, we have B2G2free on Matrix haircare. Going inside, there is more haircare stuff. Redken has a free mini hairspray with full-sized hairspray purchase, limit four. Oscar Blandi has an Every Other Day set for $48, with volumizing shampoo, conditioner (8.4 ounces for those), and then dry shampoo spray (3.2 ounces). The set is designed so that you can notice the benefits of only washing your hair every other day, and I think that’s awesome. Sexy Hair, Nioxin, and Tigi are all B2G2free, like Matrix.

Onto budget makeup, Revlon, Almay, and Maybelline are all B2G1 free, and L’Oreal Studio Secrets and LA Splash are B1G1 50% off. In ULTA cosmetics, there are 17 new nail polishes, 2 new mascaras, 12 new Kiss/Tell lipglosses, and 12 new Extreme Wear lipcolours. There’s also a GWP-when you spend $17.50 in ULTA cosmetics, minerals, implements, and tools (excludes Professional, Colour Kits, and mineral kits), you can get one of three colour collections: Tiger Lily (warm), Luscious Peonies (cool), and Exotic Orchid (trend). Now let me tell you-I would be tempted to go for the trend set, just for the mirror and nail polish and so forth. You get a makeup bag, 4 brushes (all which look pretty craptastic), an eyeliner, a lipstick, a bronzer, a blusher, a double-ended lipgloss, two shadow quads, two nail polishes, and a mirror. The Trend has a quad that looks sorta similar to my CARGO Tahiti quad, and the nail polishes? Yellow and royal blue. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay, I have to admit, when I saw this in Sephora I totally went ga-ga. It’s not only cheery and fun, but it’s a little cheeky too. Perfect for the spring, I’ll say!

Let’s start out with the lips, since I think lips when I think heartbreaker (gotta have a strong lip, friends). First up is the Lip Shine, which retails for $19 and comes in two shades: Berry Hot (a sheer bright fuschia) and Melon Drama (a juicy melon). These are squeeze-tube glosses, which means that they may sell fast since a lot of people love squeeze-tubes. I personally love brushes but that’s just me and my crazy self. There is also a roll-on lip gloss (don’t see those as much) that retails for $21, and the shade (Pink Sugar) is a sheer shimmery light pink.

There are two eyeshadow palettes with this collection-each one having six shadows, a decent-looking mini brush, and retailing for $34. The Kiss & Tell palette has a light pink, a darker pink, a white, a cool-toned purple, a black, and then a more neutral pink, while the Hot Date has a champagne, a bronze-toned brown, a beige, a taupe, and then a light blue and a teal.

There is a Lash DNA with this, but it’s nothing new-just a fancy box for the collection.

For those perfect seductress eyes, there is the liquid liner pen, which retails for $24. I love me some winged eyeliner, in fact it’s almost become a trademark of mine (even though I can’t do them well) and these are good. The only thing is they aren’t foolproof but then again, winged eyeliner is definitely not foolproof! Read the rest of this entry »

I know this one is a week late, but I lost the ad and just finally found it today kicking around at the bottom of my purse!

If you like Neutrogena, then you’ll want to hit ULTA, as it’s all B2G1 free. Ditto on all “salon styling/finishing products”, which equates to brands like Bed Head, Sexy Hair, Paul Mitchell, and so forth. Good times. Dermalogica is also B2G1 free, except for kits-which makes it a darn good way to get stocked up on what you need. I actually work at a shopping center with a store where I get 20% off Dermalogica, and the main thing I need is the facial sunscreen so that I don’t totally age my face this next summer when I inevitably am at the beach all the time with my friends.

On the note of skincare, there’s plenty of new stuff. Murad has an anti-aging acne regimen, which looks really interesting. I am a HUGE Murad fan, and the line is broken into three easy steps: cleanse/tone, treat/repair, hydrate/protect. I still am waiting a bit to review my Murad cleanser and moisturizer, but so far, the results are showing and my face is loving it. Anywhoo, Strivectin has a new Got Wrinkles? set for $99 which has the SD treatment, the hand cream, and the new eye cream. Kinerase also has new stuff, in this case two new firming products (face cream and eye cream) that go “beyond collagen”. Hmm… Exuviance CoverBlend is 10% off, which looks to be good for the one spot on my face I need to cover but I don’t need as much else. Mario Badescu has a sample of the Herbal Hydrating Serum with any purchase, DDF has a sample of the Advanced Micro-Exfoliation cleanser with purchase, and Peter Thomas Roth has a sample of the Mega-Rich eye cream with purchase. So this is the last ad before Christmas-and it has a $5 off a $10 purchase coupon. The one in newspapers had the standard $3.50 off, so be prepared to save mucho money.

We start out with fragrance, and it’s the usual “luxury robe” with a purchase of $30 or more in fragrances…or the new Ed Hardy appliances. Nothing truly “new” on the fragrance front, although Couture Couture is amazing. I bought the rollerball at Sephora and it’s a great young-but-sexy perfume. Also Incanto Bliss is not new-in fact, there’s another Incanto coming out this next spring. I sure hope there’s another Island perfume coming, because Very Hollywood didn’t live up to my expectations. The new Ed Hardy is just as bad as the previous two, although I do love the bottle with the outsized cap. As far as the appliances go-yeah, they’re pricey, but it’s Ed frickin’ Hardy after all, and they have the Love Kills Slowly black base w/skull design appliances now in full-size. Me? I want the mini set.

Next up is a popular one for ULTA-stocking stuffers, as there are things from $2 handcreams and $1 lipbalms to $3 Jasmine LaBelle sets and $5 compacts, wristlets, and nail polish sets. Apparently the OPI Tiny Tinsels set is on sale for $5, so I may or may not pick that bad boy up. There are also $10 and under gifts such as the mug gift set with shower gel, lotion, and body cream, Cargo’s new lip gloss greeting cards, cheapie eyeshadow palettes galore, candles, and all sorts of things. All of them, to me, relatively boring, but when you have a multi-year supply of body products then yeah, things get boring. The under $20 though looks better. Too Faced Glamour to Go 3, an ULTA pro 5-piece brush set, POP Beauty 24K Clutch, Cargo Boogie Nights eyeliner set, and a twin pack of Pur Minerals mascara, along with a larger beauty blockbuster courtesy of ULTA brand.

Moving into prestige cosmetics (already? Darn) there is the Smashbox Wish collection, which I strongly suggest you take a look at. The highlight for me is the brush set, and if you use the Photo Finish primer you will want to check out that duo set. With any purchase, you get a free cream liner trio. I just got a Blacktrack fluidline, so I am good for now, but I may get the brush set for both my mum and myself. Bare Minerals has a few sets-there’s a 4 piece brush set for $35 (kabuki, blending, contour shadow, eyeliner) in a pink bag, as well as a 4-piece Buxon lip gloss set for $28. For $34, you can get a “classic glam” inspired set, with Pearl Sateen and Parisian Grey eyeshadows, Charcoal Lame liner/shadow, So Fab blusher, and a mini Pomegranate gloss. I admit, I’m kinda liking the gloss… Read the rest of this entry »

Black Friday Shopping

27 November, 2009

This, in all honesty, is the first year I’ve ever done the actual Black Friday running around. The closest was my senior year of high school, in which we hit three stores total. This? Way better. The last three years I worked opening shifts and so all my shopping was done on breaks or afterwards. But this year? Shop before, baby!

Mom and I left the house at 5:15, and headed up to Best Buy. No way in heck either of us were camping out, and it was pretty cold. No rain, luckily. The store was jam-packed though, and I came in for one thing: Brutal Legend on PS3 for my brother, because I needed to get him taken care of. They also had other video game bargains, and we got Rayman Raving Rabbids for the Wii as well as Sonic Chronicles for the DS for $10 each. The DVD’s, though, were the star. We got some $4 flicks (Sideways, Capote) and some $7 ones (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Role Models) because DVD’s can add up, and they were movies I wanted to see anyways. The line was insane-be prepared to wait up to an hour in line. But totally worth it!

Next stop was JcPenney, and we mainly went for the free snowglobe that they ran out of. They did have some good deals, but most were after mail-in rebate. A lot of places had that, actually. Still annoying as hell, though. After that was ULTA, where deals were a bit more scarce. They had the weekly ad deals plus a few doorbusters, but it was really nothing spectacular. I only bought two things-one of the BE sets that was $10, and Essie Bright Tights, as I had been wanting it since I first saw it. My mum got both the face and the eye sets, but the eye one for me? Meh. However, I have a few new lemmings. First up is the Napoleon Perdis Gold Digger Glimmer set, featuring three shimmer pots and a brush for $25, as well as the lipgloss set which is $28 (or in that range) for five glosses). Second is the Smashbox Wish brush set, which is a set of five travel brushes (angled face, slant eyeliner, large eye blending, eye fluff, eye tapered) in a pink hard case with $1 of the sale going to Children’s Miracle Network. It’s $49-so about the same as the MAC sets-but the quality is so amazing. Finally, POP Beauty has the Lid Neon palette for $22. Granted, it’s all matte so it’s bound to be a bit chalky but if you use a good primer, I can only imagine how crazy it would be. Read the rest of this entry »

ULTA 2009 Black Friday Ad?

26 November, 2009

I know some of you are coming here, looking to see if ULTA has a Black Friday ad. Unfortunately…I did not see one in my newspaper, nor my mail. If I get my hands on an ad, I will definitely let you all know. It could be something that comes out in tomorrow’s papers, or it could be a non-advertised sort of thing. All I know, I haven’t seen one. Sorry folks.

I have just received an email with a preview of some of the blockbuster deals. They include:

Bare Minerals Bright Idea set #1-This is an eye set, with Well-Rested eye colour and a dome brush. This will be all of $10, making it an insane gift item.
Bare Minerals Bright Idea set #2-This is a face set, with Glee all-over colour and an angled brush. This will be $10, as was the eye set.
Smashbox Beauty Basics Set-This has a mini of Fame lipgloss, eyeshadow singles of ASAP and Pronto, and a .3 ounce size of Photo Finish primer. It says $12.99 on the website, but who knows what it will go down to?
Smashbox Double Duty Beauty kit-This has a Doubletake lip colour in Apricot, a Speedracer Double Exposure lip/cheek colour, and then a medium size of Crystal lipgloss. Same price as the other Smashbox set.
Smashbox Quick Eyes kit-This has a #30 brush as well as Pronto and ASAP single shadows, also for $12.99.
All ULTA Smoothies (the 3/1’s)-$6.99
ULTA 69-piece beauty blockbuster-$16.99
There are two Essie twin-packs. One of them is a colour one, with Bordeaux and A-List polishes, and the other is a classic (ie French manicure) set with Waltz and Ballet Slippers. They are $6 apiece, so perfect for gifts, stocking stuffers, or just to try some new shades at way, way less than retail.
Revlon Fuschia Ionic Dryer or 1″ straightener-$10
Holiday colour sets from $4.99

Update: I went this morning with my mum, and I came home with just two items: the Bare Minerals face set, and Essie Bright Tights. The sets are an insane value, even as gifts. For me, I needed a face brush and the angled one feels nice. There really aren’t a whole lot of special sales, and the clearance area was abysmal. I avoided getting OPI She’s Golden, but I am so glad I shelled out extra to get Bright Tights.

Also, as far as OPI goes, they had restocked all the holiday shades, except the ULTA exclusives which were fairly sparse (only one of Dreaming of Red). Essie had restocked Mint Candy Apple but I got the second-to-last Bright Tights. Pink Parka and Midnight Cami are definitely on my list, though.
