New ULTA Ad: 8-28 August

10 August, 2010

So I haven’t gotten an ULTA ad in ages, and the only thing I had received recently was my latest coupon (which I used well-I have reviews coming soon on the Cargo mini set). But I figured this was because they have the latest rewards coupons. Again, I am level four, but I’m probably just going to use it on a nail polish. The nice thing is that the rewards certificate is valid through the middle of September, so if you are wanting to use it on nail polish you are actually best holding off on it until the next ad comes, because there might just be a deal (ie B2G1 free) on OPI or Essie. There is an OPI mini set with a $10 OPI purchase-it has minis of Brisbane Bronze, Bogota Blackberry, and Black Cherry Chutney-but I hate the OPI minis. Brisbane Bronze and Black Cherry Chutney, especially, are staple polishes for me that I can’t imagine being without. (Russian Navy is in there; it’s my lucky colour. I wore it when I got my current job, and when I wore it today I had my best performance probably EVER. Definitely a lucky colour if there ever was one)

It’s another bag with fragrance purchase thing-this time, it’s a weekender in white, pink, or teal with a black jacquard print. I like it, but honestly a) I never am away from home, and b) I have enough suitcases already. There are lots of newbies though-JPG Classique X, Benefit’s new three (So Hooked on Camella; which is a floral with vanilla, Lookin to Rock Rita; a green fruity, and Garden of Good and Eva; a citrus floral). The ad had a sample of Camella, which I actually really like. It’s VERY similar to VS Dream Angels Halo, which is a recent love of mine. This is my summer frag for 2010, and the Benefit fragrances aren’t too out of reach (granted, it’s just a one ounce EDT but $36 is reasonable IMO) so I may have to get it once I run down on something. There’s also the Daisy Pop Art edition, which is basically a red bottle with black flowers. Calvin Klein has new Eternity Aqua for men, Philosophy has Eternal Grace (which I may need to give a try), Blumarine has new Blugirl, and more.

There are also more bag with purchase deals-a $75 Ed Hardy fragrance purchase will get you either a tote (ladies) or backpack (men’s), a $70 women’s purchase will get you a clutch with minis or a $65 of men’s will get you a “flight bag” with minis of CK Eternity, and a $58 DKNY Be Delicious purchase will get you a tote. Lots of value sets also, nothing really that new or interesting except the Princess one, where for $65 you get the 1.7 ounce EDT, a body lotion, and a lipgloss keychain with a mini bag.

It’s the time of year for the ULTA brand GWP-with a 17.50 purchase of the cosmetics, beauty tools, or minerals, you get a gift in your choice of purple or green. Each has two shadow quads, two polishes, a dual-ended lipgloss, a dual-ended eye pencil, a blush, a bronzer, a lipstick, a mirror, four brushes (sponge-tip eye, eye shader, powder, angled blush…all long-bristled), and the bag. There are also new ULTA brand items-mousse blushes, compact foundations, Legendary Lengths mascara, gel liners, and cream shadows. My mum uses some of the stuff from hers from last year, although I avoid the ULTA brand stuff since my skin got kinda irritated. What can I say, it’s picky skin. Read the rest of this entry »

So it’s the Dad’s Day edition, and of course you know there’s going to be a gift offer-and this one, it’s cool: a free cooler with mini grill with a fragrance purchase of $30 or more. Look at it this way: if they have the Juicy rollerballs, that’s essentially two of those, and you get the grill for free. Very nice.

We start off with the good makeup, as Bare Minerals has a starter kit for $20 that has the original and matte foundations, plus Warmth all-over colour and a mineral veil and a mini brush. There’s six shades to choose from. Inside, there’s a few new things. Urban Decay now has rolled out the Eden Primer Potion-a matte nude. OPI has a duo of Feelin’ Hot-Hot-Hot! plus topcoat as well as a mini purse for $6, while Stila has a new 6-shade Artist palette for $28. Lorac has new Multiplex glosses, including ULTA-Glam, an ULTA exclusive colour, for $22. They supposedly have holographic pigments, so I am definitely interested in putting these to the test. Essie has rolled out the new Summer collection, and they are B2G1 free. Benefit has a new primer product, The Pore-Fessional, which is supposed to be a pore minimizer. It retails for the typical price point (for Benefit) of $28. The ULTA Professional nail line has a free base or top coat with purchase of colour polish, also.

There’s a deal, also, at ULTA’s that have the Benefit Brow Bars-get a brow arch for $20, and you get your choice of Fishnets or Low Profile eyeshadows free. Too bad we don’t have a brow bar near here…

Smashbox has their summer collection, Naked Beauty, which I will do a more in-depth piece on in the coming days. There’s Golden Nude in the Photo Finish Lid Primer, a duo of High Lights and a Creamy Cheek colour, a Halo bronzer, and a little coffret of 8 lipglosses. On the note of sun stuff, Pur Minerals has a self-tanning lotion that is 2/$25-normally $22 EACH, and Cargo still has the Get Wet kit, which is a full-size mascara, a waterproof bronzer, and three eyeliners in bright shades for the summer for $32. I am a huge fan of Cargo products, and this is one that to me is a can’t miss. Read the rest of this entry »

This is something that has become a tradition for Sephora, or at least it seems that way to me. It’s a little bag that is filled with little sizes of various sun-protection products, and the best part is that all of the profits go to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Now, when I say little sizes, I mean little bottles, not vials or carded samples. These are the types that would be in the Beauty Insider freebie set.

We have the following…
Bliss Best of Skintentions (SPF 15)
DDF Ultra-Lite Oil Free Moisturizing Dew (SPF 15)
Ole Henriksen Herbal Day Cream (SPF 15)
Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All-Day Defence Lotion (SPF 30)

Kate Somerville Protect (SPF 55)
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream (SPF 60)

CoverFX Brite Prep (SPF 50)
Smashbox PhotoFinish (SPF 15)

Murad Essential C eye cream (SPF 15)
Clarins Delectable Self-Tanning Mousse (SPF 15)
Bare Minerals Multi-Tasking Face (SPF 20; Summer Bisque shade)
Jack Black Intense Therapy lip balm (SPF 25; Lemon/Chamomile flavour)

In addition to the twelve little goodies, you also get two one-time use UV bracelets (no idea what those are for) as well as a pink cosmetic bag to put them all in. It runs for $25, which is a good way to try out a bunch of the sun products and seeing what will work with your skin, as opposed to just going out and buying a ton of expensive big sizes.

New ULTA Ad: 21 Feb-13 March

23 February, 2010

Sorry this is so late, my energy has been pretty much nonexistent lately. Alas, here are the new deals!

For those of you who are ULTA club members, this is when you get your rewards certificate. I could have SWORN I was at least at level 6 but nope, only level 5 for me:( On the cover, we have B2G2free on Matrix haircare. Going inside, there is more haircare stuff. Redken has a free mini hairspray with full-sized hairspray purchase, limit four. Oscar Blandi has an Every Other Day set for $48, with volumizing shampoo, conditioner (8.4 ounces for those), and then dry shampoo spray (3.2 ounces). The set is designed so that you can notice the benefits of only washing your hair every other day, and I think that’s awesome. Sexy Hair, Nioxin, and Tigi are all B2G2free, like Matrix.

Onto budget makeup, Revlon, Almay, and Maybelline are all B2G1 free, and L’Oreal Studio Secrets and LA Splash are B1G1 50% off. In ULTA cosmetics, there are 17 new nail polishes, 2 new mascaras, 12 new Kiss/Tell lipglosses, and 12 new Extreme Wear lipcolours. There’s also a GWP-when you spend $17.50 in ULTA cosmetics, minerals, implements, and tools (excludes Professional, Colour Kits, and mineral kits), you can get one of three colour collections: Tiger Lily (warm), Luscious Peonies (cool), and Exotic Orchid (trend). Now let me tell you-I would be tempted to go for the trend set, just for the mirror and nail polish and so forth. You get a makeup bag, 4 brushes (all which look pretty craptastic), an eyeliner, a lipstick, a bronzer, a blusher, a double-ended lipgloss, two shadow quads, two nail polishes, and a mirror. The Trend has a quad that looks sorta similar to my CARGO Tahiti quad, and the nail polishes? Yellow and royal blue. Read the rest of this entry »

No, these are not one product in the same:) However, they are both ridiculously amazing!

Let’s start out with the cleanser, which is a 5.1 ounce bottle for $26. The thing that is important to realize is that with this, you don’t have to use a full pump. Just a tiny bit out will give enough cleanser for the whole face! The cleanser is designed to be lightweight and non-drying, while toning at the same time and helping to cleanse out pores. It also has copper in it which is designed to help energize the skin, and the pomegrante helps to balance. For somebody with nasty combination skin that can be acne-prone, this cleanser is an absolute godsend. After a couple weeks of somewhat-regular use, my skin is so much brighter and more glowy-I don’t look as tired even though work is extremely stressful.

There is one huge con with it though-it’s not particularly effective on super-tough makeup. I find that I still have to use makeup remover beforehand, as the foam doesn’t do as great a job I hoped of whisking my mascara and liquid liner away. However, since you just need an additional product for that, I say that this is absolutely a must-have for combination skin. Read the rest of this entry »

Lots of Hauling…

3 January, 2010

…but none of the makeup variety. Instead, it’s been a lot of polish. And other stuff.

Yes, you may have already seen my VS report/haul, but I did more. Much more. First off, it was time to get me some real skincare, so I went and got myself a few pieces of Murad. I got the foaming cleanser as well as the SPF 15 moisturizer and so far, I’m impressed. The cleanser has AHA’s and is designed to cleanse, exfoliate, and tone, but it’s not good at taking off makeup. The moisturizer, meanwhile, is lightweight, not greasy, and it doesn’t clog. All in all, good so far.

I went to two different Trade Secret locations today, but the Alice in Wonderland collection won’t be out until the 12th at the latest due to the warehouses being backed up. Additionally, clearances weren’t great, and Festive Fuschia sold out. I did, however, pick up the matte version of Alpine Snow and the suede version of You Don’t Know Jacques for 50% off, as well as a yellow headband for 75% off.

ULTA was next, and they had a lot of China Glaze clearanced as well as more OPI. A backup of Shim-Merry Chic was in order, and I got one of the polishes I skipped the other day, A Grape Fit. When searching through the back clearance I found Glove You So Much, and up front, they had the China Glazes and I picked up Free Love. The best thing in this bunch, though, was not a polish, but something else-the Tweezerman brow bubble. Designed as a Christmas ornament, it has a mini Tweezerman tweezer as well as a 10x magnifying mirror, and for the two it’s all of $10. I got the last one at my ULTA, and after testing it out on my brows-I’m hooked. These are the gold standard of tweezers for a damn good reason. Read the rest of this entry »
