Yesterday (well, two days ago, since it’s now Sunday on the West Coast), I got my stuff from the new MAC collections-and I have to say, I’m in love with all of it.
Let me first give my impressions on the stuff: from the Vera side of things, the Pearlglides are amazing and full of win. The Plushglasses are all very sheer. The Aloha stack is really pretty, as is Strawberry Patch, but the latter is so similar to the pinks in the Stacked 1 set from two years ago. That being said, I may have to get it IF it gets to the CCO…the Pearlmattes are bleh. Not a fan. For an all-over powder, I either go with Lightscapade or Refined-Refined gives me a really nice, tanned look. I seriously need another. Oh, I can’t forget the polishes-the peachy polish is really pretty and I highly recommend it.
Now for what I did buy: Butterfly Party, the blue/purple stack. It’s so full of win, it isn’t funny. The silvery-green is very much like the one in Surf The Ocean from last year (at least that’s what I think it was), but the other three? Very nice. The blurple is just gorgeous, with the multidimensional pearl. I wish it was sold as a pigment, because I would literally buy stock in it. Speaking of which, MAC needs a good blurple, and I’m not heading anywhere near an Inglot stockist anytime soon for comparing. Read the rest of this entry »

So the other day, my Zoyas (from the promo) arrived, and it’s so fun trying them out! (I am also glad that I got them when I did, seeing as trucks can’t really get up our hill with all the snow/ice) I’ve done the promos before, and if there’s one thing I learned from before, it’s to order as soon as possible after the code comes out. Figure it’s the cost of my morning coffee/bagel (if I work a morning shift), so I can swing it very easily. There have been times where it’s taken nearly 4 weeks for everything to arrive. This time? Less than two. (There’s all the processing, plus I don’t like paying more for shipping so it’s a week to Seattle)
Anyways, I got two blue polishes-Jo and Ibiza. The thing with Zoya is that there is so much I want to try and buy, but the nice thing is that they don’t really delete polishes from the range. It’s also good to get away from the super-metallics, although I have yet to buy a creme finish from them yet. I dunno why…
Jo is a beautiful colour, it’s very 90’s in a way. It’s a pale dusty blue with blue and silver shimmer that reminds me of Essie’s Lapis of Luxury (as far as the base colour goes). I think this may be prettier though because of a) the shimmer, and b) the fact that you just need two coats for total opacity. I don’t think I have another polish (besides LoL) that is close to this, and it’s a shade that goes with a lot. It’s not bright enough to where it overwhelms, but at the same time it’s still enough of a pop of colour to make an impact.
Ibiza, meanwhile, is a blackened blue with blue shimmer that is like a lot of stuff I already own. (Orly Star of Bombay, Essie Aruba Blue, OPI Russian Navy/Play til Midnight…to name a few) The one advantage that this has, though, is that you could theoretically get away with just one coat. The only problem is that it is VERY slow drying (I’ve never restocked on my Seche Vite), and the shimmer doesn’t really show up sometimes. It can look very…bleh. Maybe next time I’ll try it as a two-coater-I saw the opacity of the one coat and figured that it would cut it. Obviously, I was very wrong. Still, though, it’s a nice colour, if not terribly unique.
With my order, I got chipboards for the three new collection launches. That’s one thing I like about what they do: I can really see the colours and then get hyped up to buy them when they hit the local ULTA. I’m eyeing a couple of them, namely the Fleck Effects (even if flakies are a couple years old and it’s all about the magnets now).

Today, I hit the outlets for the first time in 7 months. It wasn’t intentional, not going for that long-it was just between vacation, work, youth group stuff, and not having a whole lot of time-the multiple busses to shop weren’t feasible.
But I got up there today, because I needed to do a little Christmas shopping-and that I did!
First off, at the Kate Spade store, I picked up one of the little piggy coinpurses for my best friend. I was pleased to hear that they are vinyl, and that there are quite a few things they do that have no leather on them whatsoever-the girl told me to just ask them the next time I come up. Definitely a fan; it’s hard finding a good bag that isn’t leather, and I quite like Kate Spade. I may have to come back and get myself a piggy coinpurse as well, since they have bright pink. It was under $20, also, which made it a great buy.
At the Juicy outlet, I treated myself to a charm. It was a little bottle of sunscreen, but it was $16 so I couldn’t resist. Ironic thing is that my bracelet is missing somewhere in my room, so I haven’t been able to put it on there yet. (That, and the pumpkin pie charm that I got several weeks ago) I could have bought way more, but I hate spending a ton of cash. They had a really cute charm that was a dog in a bubble bath though.
Finally, at the CCO I picked up a couple shadows for my friend-Her Alter Image and Sky Blue. I could have bought a lot for myself-they had Amazon Princess blush (from Wonder Woman), about 20 pigments/glitters (including Bright Fuschia, meaning I should come back and get it), as many if not more eyeshadows (Surf USA is one I almost got-that and Vibrant Grape. Also could have gone for a backup of Sky Blue), beauty powders…lots of good stuff. I got myself one beauty powder though-Light Sunshine. They had a bunch of Michael Kors Island Palm Beach, including a set for $50 that had a bonus. Definitely will have to get it; I’m halfway done with my bottle. Ah, the pains of Christmas shopping. Worst part is I still have quite a bit more to do.
I was happy though because the local nail supply had two bottles left of OPI DS Perfection. I picked up one, to go in the package down to California, and may have to get the other along with the last bottle of DS Original. Just to have backups, ya know?

This year, I kept my hauling at a minimum. I’m running on smaller-than-normal checks, and also I don’t need to be buying a ton of things on the sales. But I still was able to make my money work for me in a very good fashion-and get a few things I actually needed!
First up was the Fred Meyer sock sale-and I limited myself to a single pair of slipper socks (which are so cozy on my feet right now), a two-pack of knee-high fuzzy socks, and then a pair of metallic tights. Total damage? Around $16 with tax. I could have bought way more, but I don’t need to. I almost got the faux fur legwarmers, but it’s a little too Jersey Shore for me. On the socks, though-many of my old sleep socks were getting seriously worn out after years and years of useage. It’s time to start replacing them-so it’s time to get new ones. It’s a gradual thing, but I’ll have plenty of time.
Then at my store, I was able to get something else I truly needed: pajama pants. Most all my pajama pants are way too big for me now, due to the sheer amount of weight that I have lost. What was once a medium is now a small-I never thought I would be a small in anything, let alone bottoms! We had a good sale on the pajamas, anyways, so I got the only two flannel pairs in a small. I also got two of a little kimono-inspired cardigan and three different little dresses-an A-line t-shirt dress, a black velvet-top dress with pleated bottom, and then an orange half-sleeve dress that is straight out of the 1970’s. I was so happy that we got our discount on top of the deals, which we didn’t get last year. I only spent around $36 after tax, which was way less than what I got out of there last year for.
I wanted to get the Benefit duo at ULTA, but they were gone:( I did, however, pick up a couple of the China Glaze polishes that were on clearance-Cha Cha Cha and Blue Iguana. I presume they were from the summer collection, but I got out of polish for quite awhile (fatigue and malaise, so to speak). I am loving Cha Cha Cha though; it’s very much like MAC’s Lucky Green eyeshadow, but in polish form. They had a few others that I may pick up next payday too, because I have to send some polish to California as well as hit the dusty for other polish gifts.
I very nearly plunked down the $28 for CARGO Laguna blush, but my headpiece was hurting my head a lot (basically a St. Lucia-inspired wreath, with greenery, LED tealights, and fake birds), so I had to mosey on home.
Oh, and at Macy’s I had my mum pick me up one of those old-style popcorn makers. I’ve always wanted one, and I can bring it to the church for youth events. Maybe even sell popcorn on Wednesday nights for a fundraiser, perhaps?

5 November, 2011
Well, I just got back from another vacation, and there were quite a few interesting things that I saw! I didn’t haul as much makeup as previously…I dunno. I think I’m in a bit of a rut, either that or just burnt out because I have so much already and I need to be better at using it all.
Anyways…my biggest news is that at 5 Macy’s locations in the US (South Coast Plaza and Fashion Valley are two of them), you can now purchase Inglot! Thanks to the Impulse Beauty, there’s my favourite brand to try-as well as get the full selection (somewhat) of Urban Decay. (Flipside is NOT at ULTA anymore, as well as many Sephora locations) The thing that I found very, very reassuring is that there is very heavy demand from my fellow Washington residents-the girl at the counter said that already there had been around a dozen people wanting it in Seattle or the Seattle area-and the counter had been there for just a few short weeks. I certainly would love it, because it would mean that I could start a Freedom System as well as get more of my favourite gel liners.
Speaking of which, I got three new liners, and I love them to death! 73 is a pale purple, not quite a lavender though. It’s a bit warm-toned, but not quite a plum or aubergine, and it’s light enough to where it’s just a hint of colour (not quite the pop of my beloved 88), but it still shows quite nicely. It’s very understated. 81 is the lighter of the two oranges that they make-80 is more of a primary orange. I’m definitely a fan of this one because it’s a unique thing. I mean, who else does orange eyeliner? Not many big brands. And I’m quite certain that even fewer of them make it in a gel liner form-so I had to get it. Again, it’s a great pop of colour without being too overbearing. Finally, I got 85 which is the chartreuse. I almost got it the last time I had been down, but I decided on 87 and 88 instead. It’s really fun to do that and then one of those for a bi-coloured waterline, but also since I use a lot of greens and blues it goes well. Next time I’ll probably get one or both of the pinks, as well as the royal blue. Gotta start setting aside eyeliner money! Read the rest of this entry »

Good news: I have swatches for this! Quality isn’t the greatest, but my camera is working again so I got it all set:)
Tonight was the Glitter & Ice event, and the official kick-off (well early) for MAC’s Holiday collections! There is a LOT to digest in this-and the collection will set the tone for the rest of the holiday. Last year, it was the tartans. This year, it’s glitter and ice as the name implies-sparkly and silver. Quite fun, and could be more than just a holiday collection.
It’s a sizeable collection in and of itself-but since it’s white with silver accent packaging, no B2M on it.
First up we have the eye stuff-and let’s start with the Paint Pots! I am not someone whom has used these, in fact there was one time I nearly bought one and didn’t-and I don’t regret it. Put it this way: they’re the only thing that smudged as I was in the process of swatching (by bumping into the fringe curtain). Yes, I actually did all my swatching and so forth early. The perks of working in the mall! Nonetheless, there are some good colours in there.
The Mineralize eyeshadows are-dare I say it-quite nice! In fact, the one item I bought (so far) is Shimmermint, a pale green one. I did not try them wet in store, but once home I gave Shimmermint a try wet and honestly, it’s the way to go (as always). The ONE MES that I have never had to do wet, actually, is Fresh Green Mix. Over UDPP, the blueish undertones really come out to play. I then swatched it alongside the green from the Surf the Ocean Crush Metal stack and there is DEFINITE difference in the swatches. The green from the stack is way more seafoam green, while Shimmermint, next to the green, pulls VERY blue. It’s a great colour and one that I feel I will be getting a lot of use of. For an Ice Queen look? PERFECTION. I might consider Frozen Blue as well.
The Technakohls are not something that I particularly like. I rarely use pencil liners anymore (the exception being UD Flipside, aka Best Eyeshadow Ever), and my experience with these was that they just drag. They’re so stiff and not creamy that it’s impossible to get anything good. Granted, the ones I had were Full of Fuschia and Colour Matters. I don’t touch them well, ever, anymore. That being said-this is a decent selection of colours, with the one that actually seems worthy of the money being Practice Makes Perfect, a beautiful teal. Read the rest of this entry »
