Hooray Summer!

22 June, 2011

So summer has finally arrived, and yesterday the sun and heat were in full force here (if only for two days before more clouds/mid 60 temps). And with all that-time to change some beauty things around!

First up, my leg makeup tricks. This is what works for me, because I have a good deal of a tan already-but I like to accent it. People ask me if I spray-tanned or what I use, and it’s quite simple: you just need three different shimmery powders (I use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish), and then you use a lotion to mix it and seal it all in. Personally, I use So Ceylon, Shimpagne, and Northern Lights in that order: So Ceylon gets the bronze, Shimpagne for the shimmer, and Northern Lights has a good blend of bronze and reddish tones to really amp up the tan. I then use Gilly Hicks lotion and it makes my legs not only butter-soft, but it allows me to get it so that it isn’t streaky. If I really want more shimmer, I’ll add a little bit of Glissade or Light Flush. I do that because it is much more fine of a shimmer, even moreso than the most finely-milled shimmer in shimmer lotions. Figure if it works for the face, it works for the legs-so it doesn’t SCREAM shimmer, it just reflects the light and looks shimmery if you look closely enough. For the lighter colours, I like to use a buffer brush like a 181, but for the darker ones I’d use something like a 168.

Second, for the hair, I have to start deep-conditioning it! My hair has lightened up significantly, due to a) the vacation, and b) the fact that our mall had an outdoor event, and I was outside in the sun for two days. It looks like I spent a fortune getting it highlighted…but I thank the sun! But with all that, and my love of my hairdryer…it’s time for the shea butter hair mask.

For my face, I’m struggling because with my stress-and my love of Menchie’s and Yogurtland, I am getting many more zits. One thing that I have tried, though, is to do an olive oil cleanse at night. I just get some on the washcloth and wipe my makeup off. Sure, it takes work, especially with all the makeup that I wear, but I like how it lightly moisturizes. And since I hate getting the washcloth right up in my eye, once my face has been oiled I can just use my fingers to rub any excess eye makeup off. Bad, I know, but it’s all slick so it isn’t AS bad, I don’t think.

Finally, it’s always good for new fragrances…but I have my Michael Kors, so I am happy:)

New ULTA Ad: 8-28 August

10 August, 2010

So I haven’t gotten an ULTA ad in ages, and the only thing I had received recently was my latest coupon (which I used well-I have reviews coming soon on the Cargo mini set). But I figured this was because they have the latest rewards coupons. Again, I am level four, but I’m probably just going to use it on a nail polish. The nice thing is that the rewards certificate is valid through the middle of September, so if you are wanting to use it on nail polish you are actually best holding off on it until the next ad comes, because there might just be a deal (ie B2G1 free) on OPI or Essie. There is an OPI mini set with a $10 OPI purchase-it has minis of Brisbane Bronze, Bogota Blackberry, and Black Cherry Chutney-but I hate the OPI minis. Brisbane Bronze and Black Cherry Chutney, especially, are staple polishes for me that I can’t imagine being without. (Russian Navy is in there; it’s my lucky colour. I wore it when I got my current job, and when I wore it today I had my best performance probably EVER. Definitely a lucky colour if there ever was one)

It’s another bag with fragrance purchase thing-this time, it’s a weekender in white, pink, or teal with a black jacquard print. I like it, but honestly a) I never am away from home, and b) I have enough suitcases already. There are lots of newbies though-JPG Classique X, Benefit’s new three (So Hooked on Camella; which is a floral with vanilla, Lookin to Rock Rita; a green fruity, and Garden of Good and Eva; a citrus floral). The ad had a sample of Camella, which I actually really like. It’s VERY similar to VS Dream Angels Halo, which is a recent love of mine. This is my summer frag for 2010, and the Benefit fragrances aren’t too out of reach (granted, it’s just a one ounce EDT but $36 is reasonable IMO) so I may have to get it once I run down on something. There’s also the Daisy Pop Art edition, which is basically a red bottle with black flowers. Calvin Klein has new Eternity Aqua for men, Philosophy has Eternal Grace (which I may need to give a try), Blumarine has new Blugirl, and more.

There are also more bag with purchase deals-a $75 Ed Hardy fragrance purchase will get you either a tote (ladies) or backpack (men’s), a $70 women’s purchase will get you a clutch with minis or a $65 of men’s will get you a “flight bag” with minis of CK Eternity, and a $58 DKNY Be Delicious purchase will get you a tote. Lots of value sets also, nothing really that new or interesting except the Princess one, where for $65 you get the 1.7 ounce EDT, a body lotion, and a lipgloss keychain with a mini bag.

It’s the time of year for the ULTA brand GWP-with a 17.50 purchase of the cosmetics, beauty tools, or minerals, you get a gift in your choice of purple or green. Each has two shadow quads, two polishes, a dual-ended lipgloss, a dual-ended eye pencil, a blush, a bronzer, a lipstick, a mirror, four brushes (sponge-tip eye, eye shader, powder, angled blush…all long-bristled), and the bag. There are also new ULTA brand items-mousse blushes, compact foundations, Legendary Lengths mascara, gel liners, and cream shadows. My mum uses some of the stuff from hers from last year, although I avoid the ULTA brand stuff since my skin got kinda irritated. What can I say, it’s picky skin. Read the rest of this entry »

Alrighty, this is one of my favourite times of the year because this means beauty exclusives GALORE. It seems like all the big brands bring out the big guns, and this year is no exception. I’m going to do this by brand, so if you have a particular brand you’re looking for scroll down and you may (or may not) find it.

So it’s the Dad’s Day edition, and of course you know there’s going to be a gift offer-and this one, it’s cool: a free cooler with mini grill with a fragrance purchase of $30 or more. Look at it this way: if they have the Juicy rollerballs, that’s essentially two of those, and you get the grill for free. Very nice.

We start off with the good makeup, as Bare Minerals has a starter kit for $20 that has the original and matte foundations, plus Warmth all-over colour and a mineral veil and a mini brush. There’s six shades to choose from. Inside, there’s a few new things. Urban Decay now has rolled out the Eden Primer Potion-a matte nude. OPI has a duo of Feelin’ Hot-Hot-Hot! plus topcoat as well as a mini purse for $6, while Stila has a new 6-shade Artist palette for $28. Lorac has new Multiplex glosses, including ULTA-Glam, an ULTA exclusive colour, for $22. They supposedly have holographic pigments, so I am definitely interested in putting these to the test. Essie has rolled out the new Summer collection, and they are B2G1 free. Benefit has a new primer product, The Pore-Fessional, which is supposed to be a pore minimizer. It retails for the typical price point (for Benefit) of $28. The ULTA Professional nail line has a free base or top coat with purchase of colour polish, also.

There’s a deal, also, at ULTA’s that have the Benefit Brow Bars-get a brow arch for $20, and you get your choice of Fishnets or Low Profile eyeshadows free. Too bad we don’t have a brow bar near here…

Smashbox has their summer collection, Naked Beauty, which I will do a more in-depth piece on in the coming days. There’s Golden Nude in the Photo Finish Lid Primer, a duo of High Lights and a Creamy Cheek colour, a Halo bronzer, and a little coffret of 8 lipglosses. On the note of sun stuff, Pur Minerals has a self-tanning lotion that is 2/$25-normally $22 EACH, and Cargo still has the Get Wet kit, which is a full-size mascara, a waterproof bronzer, and three eyeliners in bright shades for the summer for $32. I am a huge fan of Cargo products, and this is one that to me is a can’t miss. Read the rest of this entry »

So another day, another paycheck-and there are some smart buys in here, believe me!

Let’s start out from the treasures at work. I picked up:
A pair of camel high-waisted shorts
Three sweaters and two dress shirts for my boyfriend-they’d been marked to $5 each!
A sequinned jacket
A feathered earring and necklace pairing
Two packs of white flower hairclips
A floral short-sleeve puff-shoulder shirt
Leopard-print flats

Total damage, between all that? Under $80.

But I wasn’t done with shoes yet! I went Payless-hunting for Champion’s offshoot of the FitFlop, which is priced at $25-I went all the way to Burien for them! And since it was BOGO, I got a pair of jewel-detail flats for a whopping $4. I’m replacing all my shoes for the most part, so it’s nice to fill the closets for cheap. Hopefully the Champion flats work as well as the others I own…

Beauty-wise, I did damage. I broke my NP no-buy a week and change early, with several polishes, and added EVEN MORE!:
OPI Crimson Carol
OPI Bronzed to Perfection
Essie Splash of Grenadine
Essie Lapis of Luxury
Essie Turquoise & Caicos
Essie Sexy Divide
Sephora OPI Just A Fairy-Tail
Sephora OPI It’s Bouquet With Me
Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond
China Glaze Watermelon Rind
China Glaze Sexy in the City
China Glaze Frostbite

All of that was just under $60, however I’ve been blessed with more hours and more hours=more money. I also picked up two little bottles for mixing polishes to get my own shades-so far, I have a lovely creamy yellow with a hint of frost. I also just made up a gorgeous orange, mixing OPI In My Back Pocket, Atomic Orange, and DS Treasure. I may add a little bit more of Treasure, as it’s not great on its own but with polishes like this it rocks.

At MAC, I did NOT get the glosses or blushes, like how I intended! Shocker, I know. I did pick up Luscious Spark Dazzleglass Creme (which I absolutely love-it turns Show Orchid into a gorgeous red, and on its own it is so non-sticky and lovely), as well as pans of Goldenrod and Parfait Amour. I need a new palette, though-I have run out of space on my current pair of quads. My 15-pan is still lost (aka somewhere in my bottomless pit), but I’m trying to find it as of NOW.

I hit TJ Maxx also in search of some great newbies, but nothing cosmetic wise or nail wise. I did, though, find a bottle of Sexy Hair’s Flip It Over for $9, and then for $20 I finally got a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. It’s definitely different than L, in a good way. It’s more summery, more floral. I’m a Lolita Lempicka fanatic, though, so of course I would love it!

Nordstrom Rack led me to leave with two things. First up was a totally-rhinestoned Betsey Johnson headband for $11. Score! The other was a set of three Stila mini smudge pots, with a brush, for $13. Can’t complain there, now can we?

I am saving money though, as my birthday is a week from Sunday and I need money to buy my fancy meals, hit the outlets, and more. Woot!

Well this is the big Mum’s Day ad, with all sorts of fun exclusives! Also, if you’re a club member, it has your rewards certificate. I was only level 3 this time, but I’m gonna use it to get myself a nail polish. Hello, new Essie’s! My no-buy continues for two more weeks, though, but no worries!

Starting out, it’s the free tote with fragrance purchase-get a free faux-croc tote in one of 5 colours: pink, lime, sky blue, goldenrod, or white. I have to admit, I kinda like this-but these do tend to get marked down a few months later, so I can definitely wait. Heck, one of the local ones STILL has those hurricane jars from the winter. Anyways, the new ones featured are Beyonce’s Heat, Versace’s Versus, Bebe’s new self-titled EDP, Givenchy’s Ange ou Demon Le Secret, Bvlgari’s Blv II, and Escada’s Marine Groove. Marc Jacobs Lola isn’t technically new-it’s been out for almost a year. Sarah Jessica Parker also has her new SJP NYC, with fairly affordable prices (2 ounce is $49). Ralph Lauren has a summer edition of the Romance fragrance, at $78 for a 3.4 ounce jug-and with a $75 Romance purchase, you get a free tote and rollerball/lipgloss trio.

Of course, there are a lot of sets, and I will list them here:
