New ULTA Ad (9-29 August)

7 August, 2009

Sorry this is so late, but my latest ULTA ad came quite late, but here we are! First, before anything, there are two insane specials. The Foreshadow box (Oil Slick, Stray Dog, Midnight Cowboy, Flipside) is $14, and the Best of Urban: Baked set is $16. The cost of the shadow-and you get the glitter liner (full-size), and the two minis! (Yes, I did get it yesterday) I have heard rumours about the mini liner sets also being on special, but my ULTA didn’t have them. Also, they are now carrying the Shu Uemura eyelash curler, both the regular and the mini.

Anywhoo, the cover features one fun fragrance GWP: a free travel rolly-thingie with a $30 fragrance purchase, in your choice of black/white houndstooth, black, or black/hot pink houndstooth. I already have SO much luggage, however this is one thing that looks mighty interesting (although the GWP items occasionally go on clearance), so if I get extra money, or get this job I am going for, I may just have to get this. Inside, we have fragrance. Jessica Simpson has launched her new Fancy Love fragrance, and say what you want about her fashion (I don’t agree with some of her choices), she makes damn good perfumes. I tried it yesterday, and it’s different from the original Fancy because this is an oriental floral, no question. It says that it opens up with a note of pink champagne, but since I’ve never smelled champagne, I wouldn’t know. I almost said it was a pink pepper or something! The core of the fragrance is a luscious floral, where I definitely got the peony and the plumeria, and then the drydown is nice too. I hate the patchouli but surprisingly I didn’t get any with this. I did get woodiness and amber, but not an overwhelming patchouli. It lasted on my wrist for a good 12 hours, so this is a fragrance that I highly recommend. When you purchase the 3.4 EDP spray, you get a free purse to go with it. The 3.4 is $59, by the way. I normally won’t touch celebrity fragrances, but this one is worth it-and inexpensive, to boot.

There is a brand new MJ Daisy giftset-1.7 EDT, mini perfume rollerball, and a 2.5 lotion for $65. Vera Wang has a new Princess set for the same price as the MJ that has a 1.7 perfume, a 2.5 lotion, and then a shimmer powder brush, all in a cute little drawstring bag. CK Eternity has a GWP as well-I don’t know if it’s a bag, or a bag with a mini lotion, shower gel, and perfume. Anywhoo, it’s yours free with a $50 Eternity women’s purchase, or $62 Eternity men’s. Ed Hardy and True Religion have sets of 1.7 EDT’s and 3 ounce lotions/shower gels, for $55 and $59 apiece. DKNY has come out with a new bottle for their Be Delicious, it’s the special “pop art” edition. I would have hoped it was at least something different, but there you go. On the note of other new perfumes, Dolce & Gabbana have The One (for men) and L’Eau The One, as well as Givenchy having their new Play, fronted by Justin Timberlake. Vera Wang came out with her Rock Princess, and the set that is $65 has a 1.7 EDT, a 2.5 lotion, and a lipgloss duo. One interesting ULTA exclusive, in fragrance, is a set with a .5 of the EDP for Juicy Couture and Viva La Juicy, for $50. Finally, Benefit just launched their Crescent Row fragrance collection, featuring My Place or Yours Gina, Laugh With Me Leelee, and Something About Sofia. They are $36 each for one ounce, and the containers and packaging are fun, as you would expect from Benefit.

Moving into makeup, ULTA Brand has several new fall products, as well as a GWP: Spend $17.50, and get a clutch with products free. My mum actually got the purple one yesterday which is the “Naturally Nice”, and it has a 4-shadow quad, 2 mini polishes, a blusher, a dual-ended lipgloss, dual-ended pencil, lipstick, mirror, makeup remover, 4 mini brushes (shadow, sponge-tip, face powder, slanted face powder), and then the brush case and the clutch. If you use ULTA Brand products, this is a great thing for you, but if you don’t, it’s not worth it. You could give the contents to friends or use for Christmas stockings, especially for a younger girl or teenager who probably doesn’t know her MAC from her Maybelline.

In the cheap makeup, all Maybelline, NYX, Sally Hansen (lip, nails, treatments), Bonne Bell, Neutrogena, Cover Girl, Sally Hansen (the Carmindy line), Japonesque, L’Oreal eye makeup, and (new at ULTA) Nicole by OPI are B2G1 free. With any $10 Rimmel purchase, you get a free Sweet Jelly Gloss. With a $12 Physician’s Formula purchase, you get a free brow definer pencil. Almay has free eyemakeup remover pads with a $12 purchase, and Revlon has a free Super Lustrous lipstick or lipgloss of your choice with a $12 purchase. Finally, Max Factor has a free eye trio with a $12 purchase. The important thing I will remind you: Max Factor is being discontinued in the US. It will still be carried internationally, but Proctor/Gamble are choosing to focus it on where it sells the best-ie NOT the US. I suggest stocking up if you love some of the things (personally I don’t).

Bourjois has some new, fun products that I would love to try. First is the “Noir et Blanc” eye pencil, which is a kohl-style dual-end pencil for all your lining needs, and a steal at $12.50. There is the new Coup de Theatre mascara, which is a mascara and primer in one for $18, and this is also piqueing my interest. There is a new Effet 3-D gloss-the MAX version, which claims to deliver 1/3 more shine in one coat. They run $15.50 apiece. Too Faced, Smashbox, and Urban Decay all have their new fall collections out, and BareMinerals has a new matte foundation. You can get a free sample with a brush-it does not say though whether or not it is with purchase. I will be going anyways in order to get some other things, so I will have to keep my eyes peeled on whether or not it is free. Additionally, they have the new Definition mascara, at $18. Studio Gear has a free tote with a $35 purchase, as well. Pur Minerals has B1G1 free on their 4/1 pressed mineral foundation, if you like that. CARGO has the new LashActivator mascara which is proven to actually increase the length and fullness of lashes in 30 days. It is pricey, at $35 a tube, but once I get a job I will be road-testing this. Napoleon Perdis, aka the most underrated brand in cosmetics, has new items. There are Prismatic eye quads, and the one pictured has a bright midtone purple, a yellow, a turquoise, and a white, for $35. Screw the MAC quads coming out this fall, I need Napoleon Perdis! There are also new Luminous Lip Veils, which retail for $20. When you spend $25, you get a free black clutch.

This is an aside, but back to the Urban Decay. They have 4 new Primer Potions-but don’t get them from ULTA. Sephora has a Primer Potion box where you get full-sizes of the eye, lip, lash, and both the complexion primers, for either $60 or $65.

Onto skincare! ULTA is now stocking Mario Badescu, which is specially-formulated to help with real skin concerns: acne, aging, and the like. The drying lotion is $17, and it’s so tempting as I have some real acne right now…Meanwhile, Neutrogena, L’Oreal, Olay, and Nivea all have their skincare 15% off, as do all Bic, Schick, and Gillette products. (I need new Venus razor blades)

All the ULTA Smoothies are $10, and all ULTA bath (except body butter, scrub, gift sets, trials, and the usual items) are 3/$15. There are new Body Whip Creams which are, well, lotion that comes out like whipped cream, that are $7 (along with the Smoothies swirl creams). At BBW, we actually had a Vanilla Frosting whipped-cream style moisturizer with our Temptations line back in Fall 07, and people loved it. I never got it, as the smell was very off-putting, but this strawberry looks delish. There’s also chocolate and banana, for all sorts of fun mixing and matching. No, they are not edible.

We go to hair now, where there’s B2G1 free-with a twist. You buy a shampoo and conditioner for Everpure, Nexxus (11 ounce or larger), or ULTA Brand, you get a styler (Vive Pro, Nexxus, ULTA Brand) for free. All Hot Tools Gold curling irons are $30, as is the Conair Infiniti pink dryer with retractable cord. Revlon’s Perfect Heat 1″ ceramic straightener is $20 (it’s a new one), with a free 1/2″ travel straightener. I may just have to go for this one, as you’re getting a $60 value for $20. No need for a straightener, though-I need curls. Speaking of which, Conair’s Big Curls travel setters are $20, and Revlon’s Hot Air stylers are $19. Ken Paves, the hairstylist and a good friend to Jessica Simpson, has come out with a new range of hair appliances. For $80, you get his professional dryer or 1″ digital styling iron. For $50, you get the travel hairdryer, “detailing iron”, or 1″ curling iron. Also when you make a $40 Colour Drops purchase, you get a free Shine Serum.

Zoe has a pink/silver dryer, or matching 1″ flat iron, for $25. With the flat iron, you get a free travel kit with four clips, a case, and a brush. I like the idea of that, but clips+my hair=epic fail. All professional styling brushes are 15% off, and all Hot Tools flat irons and dryers are 20% off.

In the ULTA Salon, they are offering the new Shades EQ colour service by Redken, which is a high-conditioning demi-permanent haircolour. Best yet, you can get it free! That is, with a $35 Salon Service purchase or higher. You also get a free goody bag with some Redken swag with the service, and if it’s your first visit, you get $10 off a signature haircut. You need to have the voucher from the ad though, but it will be in Sunday’s paper more than likely.

The New York Blow Dry Bar has created their new Blow haircare, which is designed to improve the results of blow-drying your hair at home, with everything from dry shampoo (yes!) to a beach wave spray for a “tousled look”. There’s also an offer where you can get a free shower cap with $25 Blow purchase. Oscar Blandi, meanwhile, has the new Colore Pen, which is for root touch-ups as well as quick highlights-perfect for covering greys or playing with colour. It is fast-drying, although not permanent-it washes out the next shampoo. You do get a free dry shampoo trial size with purchase of a pen-$23-and you have six shades to choose from.

Oh yeah, gotta love duos! Sexy Hair has new styling duos for $20. There’s the Big Sexy Hair dry shampoo and Short Sexy Hair Hard Up gel, the Big Sexy Hair Spray/Play with the Healthy Sexy Hair leave-in conditioner, the Big Sexy Hair Root Pump with the BSH Blow-Dry Gel (which I love to death), and the Straight Sexy Hair Power Straight Balm with Smooth/Protect. Matrix also has a boatload of duos for $23, but I can’t name them all. CHI, meanwhile, has their duos for $20, and the new limited-edition flat iron for $120. It’s an orange almost tie-dye effect, with a free nail polish and a base/top coat. Meanwhile, all Paul Mitchell, Rusk, Joico, Nioxin, and KMS are B2G1 free (no brand mixing).

Finally, OPI has their fall collection, the Coleccion d’Espana with 12 new shades. They didn’t have them out yesterday when I was at the Alderwood ULTA, however they look nice, and it’s not all vampy fall shades, believe it or not! However, the best deal in this is that with a $10 OPI purchase you get a Pretty Little Pinks trio-Princesses Rule, I’m Indi-A Mood For Love, and You’re A Pisa Work. This ULTA ad is dangerous, but it does run for three weeks.
