Armani Fall 09: Manta Ray Collection

26 July, 2009

The next in my list of the fall collections is the new Manta Ray collection, courtesy of the fine folks at Giorgio Armani. It’s quite the nice collection, and it’s definitely not just neutrals and smokeys! The inspiration comes from nature as well as the materials used by the folks at Giorgio Armani to create their gowns, bags, and more. It also features takes on “Greige” which is a matte dark grey, and coincidentally, the colour of the compacts.

First up, we have the Manta Ray Eyeshadow Duo. It’s two complementary shades of eyeshadow in one round compact, with a manta ray pattern embossed on top. I also like how it is mirrored, as that’s one less thing to worry about taking out on the go! The shade range is really nice, too. Natural Manta Ray is a charcoal and “greige”, intended to create the season’s smokey eye. Ocean is a deep ocean blue and intense ocean green. Urban Manta Ray is a pale lilac and an intense fuschia. Stone is a pale blue and then a beige, while Pearl is a shimmery lilac pearl and a pale, pale green. Each of these duos runs $32. I do not have any experience with the Armani line, though, so I can’t talk about pigmentation, but to me that’s a pretty fair price. I’d get all but the Natural Manta Ray, to be honest. Can’t have a collection without eyeliner, and in this case, we have two liquid liners. The first one is a matte charcoal grey, which is a nice alternative to the blacks that you’re going to be inundated with. The other one is a metallic midnight blue, which fits in with blue being a huge colour in makeup this fall. Each one of these liners is $30, and again, I can’t speak for the quantity, but it looks like you actually get a decent amount (always a plus).

Moving on for the lips, you have two lipsticks and one of their Lip Shimmers. The Lip Shimmers are a tube-form lipgloss that is sparkly and iridescent, so in a way, it reminds me of a Dazzleglass. The colour in this-59-looks to be a milky nude pink that is perfect to go with that smokey eye. They are $26 each-cheaper than the Glossimers, but not by much. Then we have the two lipsticks-92 and 93. 92, first off, looks to be a lipstick to go with the Lip Shimmer, so expect something pinky-nude, although my eyes could very well be failing me. The other one-93-looks to be darker and vampier. Definitely think a plum, although again, I can’t get an exact picture. Each lipstick retails for $25, and these look ultra-luxe. Definitely what you would imagine when you think Armani, that’s for damn sure.

Finally, we have one powder blush. The shade, 12, is a “pale raspberry” and trust me it looks absolutely gorgeous! All of the blushes are sheer, at least the ones I am looking at, and they are designed to give a natural flush to the face as well as be used for contouring and sculpting. The idea was to have a universally-wearable palette of shades, and it looks to be that to me! Each of these is $42, which I can’t pay right now, but if you’re the kind of person who just wears one shade of blusher, it would be worth your while to invest in a shade like this.

The collection is currently available on the Armani website, and you can also get it at selected Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks, and other fine department stores.

Aw thanks! My looks lately have sucked, and I have been doing some lower-makeup looks as I have been beaching it/swimming, diving, and tanning-and I just haven’t had a chance to get the new stuff up. I’ll try and get some up this week, though, provided the heat doesn’t take it off first.
