Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Exclusives: Cosmetics
22 June, 2009
Alrighty, Nordstrom is now letting you pre-order the exclusive items for the Anniversary sale. If you are uninitiated to it, the anniversary sale is HUGE. We’re talking exclusive collections, value sizes, you name it! This post is going to be dedicated to cosmetics.
First up, Bobbi Brown has her “Best of Bobbi” set. It retails for $75, and features a 7-colour lip palette, a two pan shadow palette, a full-size gel eyeliner, a mini mascara, and a mini double-ended brush (eyeliner/eyeshadow fluff). While not a palette for people who like brights, this is a very good Christmas present for someone who prefers more neutral colours, or needs makeup that can go from day to night very easily. All the lip shades are muted roses and pinks, and the eye shades are a champagne and then a grey.
Trish McEvoy has a few things. First up is the Simplicity Little Black Card-a double-decker full-face palette. I normally hate full-face palettes, however the cream products are on one and the powder on another. This has a bronzer, a blush, a lilac eyeshadow, a nude highlight shade, and a navy liner on top, and then on the bottom, a concealer, two lipglosses, and a lip colour. This retails for $58, and it’s the perfect thing for when you are cramped for time and/or space. She also has a brush set that retails for $65, and you get a blush brush, a tapered eyeliner, a fluff eyeshadow, and a lip, all in a cutesy pink quilted case. Finally, there’s the Petite Makeup Planner. I actually like the idea of having makeup in a sort of planner page, and with this, you get a lip colour, an all-over shimmer powder, a blush, a bronzer, three eye colours, and an eye definer, along with a mini lip liner and a mini eye primer. This retails for $75, and again, is a great gift idea.
Chanel has a $45 face palette as well-and it looks gorgeous. Two lip colours, two lipglosses, and two eyeshadows-both greens. One is more of a moss green for lining and defining, the other is a seafoam green for a good all-over wash. Also, retailing for $23, you have your choice of two nail polishes-Rose des Vents (a dusty rose) or Rouge Noir (a vampy dark red).
We can’t forget Bare Escentuals, can we? There are a few things. First, we have the In Fashion kit, which retails for $55, and it has Rose Radiance all over colour, three shadows (Stunner, Charleston, and Retro Liner), two brushes (duofiber blush brush, and a dual-end shadow/liner brush), and a lipgloss. Then there is the XL hydrating mineral veil, which is .84 ounce of the veil, along with a brush, for $39.
Rock & Republic is a new beauty line. Yes, they do the super-expensive jeans. But here, we have two sets-three products and a cosmetic bag. The first set, the Mistress, is Lust blush, Spy eyeshadow, and Mistress lipgloss. The second-the Drama Queen-features the lipgloss of the same name, along with Foreplay blush and Exile eye colour. These sets are $69.50 each-and keep in mind: these are full-size. It’s worth more than double the purchase price, so this is one set I would definitely get if I had the funds.
Clinique has the “Best of Clinique”, which is a keychain. Yes, a keychain-with three little lipglosses. The “C” logo charm is actually a mirror, and you get three glosses-Air Kiss, Sunset, and Fireberry. This retails for $18.50.
Dior has many things as well. Most notably, there are the eye palettes. The first one is the “Jazz Club” and you get what looks like four shadows, a liner, and then a brow powder/wax. It’s a very muted palette-think plums and greys. Definitely very vampy and fitting with the fall theme. You also have two nail polishes-Lemon Balm, which is not a yellow but a “purple platinum”, and Mystic Violine, a rich plum, which retail for $20.
If we are talking about insane deals, Laura Mercier has the one to beat. A $167 value, it’s yours for $65, and it’s inspired by the Renaissance. You get a full-sized Undercover Pot and Lip Glace in the Pink Champagne shade, as well as an eye duo (shimmery white/matte or satin brown), a mini mascara, a daycream sample, a duo-ended eye brush, and a powder puff-all in a cosmetic bag.
Jane Iredale is a brand that I have not personally tried, although I have heard good things about it-many salons use it for their makeup services. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of her line, she has a “Sweet 15” palette with 15 shadows, 3 blushes, and 3 lip plumpers. I like how the plumpers are in vials, and that it is double-decker, so as to save space. It isn’t an ugly palette, either. It retails for $78.
NARS has their Modern Love palette, which is 6 eyeshadows-all chosen from the various eye duos. It retails for $55, and follows the emerging trend we are seeing, or at least I am-an increase in palettes and items that are specifically designed for day to night use.
YSL has their All About Eyes set for $59, and it has a full size of their Faux Cils mascara as well as a full-size of Touche Eclat, as well as a mini eye makeup remover. It isn’t that great of a value to me, but I have heard great things about the Touche Eclat.
Gotta love Shu Uemura-for $42, you get a little mesh bag with the famous eyelash curler, a full-size mascara, a mini gloss, and then a little bottle of the cleaning oil.
Also in a little bag set is an Armani lip set-lipstick, lip liner, and gloss-for $65. This is one of those “not really deals”, as you’re probably just paying normal price and getting the bag for free.
Smashbox strikes again with insane bargain sets. This set, which retails for $59, is worth over $160, and it’s all packed in a burgundy clutch. You get a 10-colour cream liner palette, a baked blush/loose shimmer duo, an eye quad, a tube of Lash DNA, Velvet Rope lipgloss, and of course, a brush-I presume this is a duo shadow/liner brush. There’s also the “Pucker Up” lip kit, with a lip enhancing gloss, a longwear gloss, and a super-shiny gloss, for $29.
Lancome has two sets, at least that I know of. The first is a face brush set of four brushes-a large powder, a foundation, a facial blending, and a duo eye brush-along with a cutesy indigo clutch-for $52. It’s actually a really well-edited set, as the big brush is designed for minerals and it’s good to have something to blend the face with. Then there is the Virtuose mascara set, with full sizes of the Black Carat mascara, the Gold Carat mascara top coat, and then promo sizes of Cils Booster and Bifacil. This set is $35, which is a good deal for all that stuff.
Like nail polishes? There’s two exclusive new sets. The first of them, from Lippmann Collection, is an insane deal-three exclusive polishes, normally $17 each, in the set for $35. You get a ruby red glitter, a black glitter, and “copper flecked fudge glitter”. Then there’s the Essie 4-pack for the fall, and well, I’m not a fan of the Essie small sets because they’re a ripoff, and this is an exception-you get a bottle and a third for the price of two bottles, 3 if you buy at ULTA. The colours are on the darker side, and then a bright pink, to go with the fall’s neon trend.
