Best of Sephora: New Sets!

11 June, 2009

Sephora, for a long time, has made several different value sets, in which you could buy sets of trial and sample sizes of everything from perfume to mascara, in order to help pick out your favourite items. There have been everything from the Lash Stashes (many different mascaras) to perfume ones where you buy a bunch of sample vials and an atomizer, and you get a coupon to pick your favourite of the 10 to get in a full size!

Well on the 17th of this month, there are ten new sets coming out, and trust me, YOU WANT THEM.

The first set is the Splashstash, and it features special waterproof goodies, perfect for beach bunnies like myself. You get mini-sizes of Tarte’s Lights Camera Splashes, Too Faced Lash Injection, a Make Up Forever Aqua Smoky Lash, Aqua Eyes liner, and eye makeup remover, and an UD Big Fatty Waterproof and a mini Electric liner. All in all, it seems like a very good set, because you get to try a bunch of different brands and figure out what works the best. The stash is $36.

We have a face moisturizer one next-the Face Quenchers kit. This features 6 deluxe samples of moisturizers for $37, and I personally like a kit like this because it gives you time to try out different things to see which is best for your skin, without dropping a ton of money on something that won’t work for you. This has deluxe samples of Korres’ Wild Rose moisturizer, Fresh’s Soy Face Cream, Murad’s Perfecting Day Cream SPF 30, Philosophy’s Hope In A Jar, Bliss’ Best of Skintentions, and Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Cream.

Continuing in skincare, we have a set that is all about fix-its. This one is $40, with samples of Bliss’ Triple Oxygen eye mask, Perricone’s Ceramic Skin Smoother, Cosmedicine’s Wrinkle Write-Off, Kinerase’s Extreme Eye Lift, Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More, and Clarin’s High Definition Body Lift. This is a $118 value-over three times the retail cost. This is designed to specifically deal with skincare concerns, and for most people who have maturing skin, this will be a lifesaver.

Moving down the body, we have the Skin Saviours kit. This has five mini sizes of various lotions, and it comes in at $24. It equates out to $4.80 for each one, which doesn’t look TOO bad. It has minis of the Korres Guava body butter, Philosophy’s When Hope Is Not Enough, Fresh’s Sugar Lemon body lotion, Bliss’ Blood Orange/White Pepper body butter, and Murad’s body firming cream. I like a set like this, especially because the bottles are perfectly sized for travel or for a purse.

Skincare and makeup? Then this is for you-it’s all natural-themed, dude! It’s $40, but a $111 value, with ten products: Josie Maran’s Argan Oil, Tarte’s Lash Hugger, Tarte’s EmphasEYES, Korres’ Silicone-Free primer, Skyn Iceland’s Icelandic Relief eye cream, Plant Love by Cargo’s Peony blush, Boscia’s Green Tea Blotting Linens, Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum, and a Bare Escentuals 100% natural gloss.

If you’re a mascara fan, try the Lash Stash! It has minis of Anastasia’s Lash Lifting mascara, Benefit’s BadGal lash (my favourite!), Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes, Sephora Brand’s Atomic Volume, Stila’s Multi-Effect, Korres Pro-Vitamin/B5 Rice Bran, DuWop Lash Venom, Smashbox Bionic, Too Faced Pinpoint Lash Injection, Bare Escentuals Buxon Lash, and to prime it all, Lancome’s Cils Booster. It’s $39, and worth it-as for most people, a full tube of mascara equals a lot of wasted product. At almost $4 for a little thing, you’re not only being smart, but you get variety.

Blink, Wink, and Brows! This is a great set for the eyes, as it contains everything you need: A mini Sephora Brand Electro Copper eyeliner, Anastasia’s Brow Gel and Matte Highlighter, minis of both Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance, a mini Stila Smudge Pot, a Smashbox mini cream liner palette AND mini eyeshadow trio, Cosmedicine’s Opti-Mologist’s eye cream, and of course, Lancome’s Bifacil eye makeup remover. The Electro liners are really nice, they are a slightly shimmery liner-I have Electro Silver and Electro Marine. Urban Decay’s Primer Potion is, of course, amazing. And Bifacil? It works very, very well. This is $40 as well, but a $112 value!

The lips need some love too, and Get Pink’d is what you are looking for. For $37 (an $80 value), you get a lot of stuff: Laura Geller’s Lip Strip, DuWop’s Prime Venom, Calvin Klein’s Mesmerize lipstick and Bloom plumping gloss, Smashbox’s O-Gloss, Stila’s Cherry Crush lipstain, Korres’ Fuschia cherry oil lipgloss, Urban Decay Jilted lipstick, and Sephora Brand’s Super Shimmer gloss in Think Pink. I have three minis of the Sephora glosses, and I love them, you need them all. I haven’t even tried any Calvin Klein makeup as no Sephoras in my area stock them, but Korres is one brand I am wanting to try. The UD ones are so cute as well! The CK lipstick looks gorgeous-a nice, bright pink.

Finally, we have fragrance-Eau Boy and Eau Girl. Each one is $40-an $80 value-and you get 8 deluxe minis of favourite perfumes. For me, the perfume minis are more of a collectible, decorative thing, as most of them are not sprays. The Eau Boy set has Versace Pour Homme, Guerlain Homme, Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme, Clean Men, Acqua di Gio, Givenchy Pi Neo, Diesel Fuel For Life, and Armani Code 5. The Eau Girl, meanwhile, has Miss Dior Cherie, Bvlgari Omnia Green Jade, Versace Bright Crystal, Prada’s Infusion d’Iris, Vera Wang’s Princess, Clean EDP, Ralph Lauren’s Ralph, and Givenchy’s Very Irresistible. None of the Eau Girl fragrances are ones I own-although Bright Crystal is one that interests me.

So why go for a set? It’s always good to get mini things to try stuff for less financial investment. It’s also good to have mini sizes without having to dram stuff out before going on a trip or on a plane. Finally, if you like one, you can give the unopened things to friends to try, put them in gifts-or if you’re like me and on Makeup Alley, you can always put them in as swap eveners and extras.
