BBW: Holiday 1!

19 October, 2008

So I couldn’t go too far without writing a review of what is new in my land, eh?

Last Sunday night, we put out the first batch of our holiday stuff. In retail, you always want to put out Holiday stuff early, because people will consciously try to finish their shopping by a certain date-be it Halloween, Black Friday, or whatever. There are even smart, yet crazy, folks who are done by the time the school year starts. I suppose I should try that…hit sales throughout the year and get the stuff. But the advantage to having stuff out early is it gets people out early, and as I like to tell them “one item bought today is a ton of sanity saved two months from now”. The last thing I want to be doing after I have spent a long day working in the mall is shopping…however, I will more than likely be doing that.

The main thing I love about the giftsets is that they don’t scream Holiday. All of the holiday fragrances can, and are, worn year-round by many of our clients. We have had people buy Vanilla Bean Noel stuff by the case in the past. All of the baskets are very seasonless-meaning that they don’t scream Christmas. The Aromatherapy baskets are either a woven material or a crocheted white yarn, and the bags are brocade cosmetic bags not unlike the sequinned ones from last year. I only got the little handle bag, but I could have gotten the baguette bag too! Oh well. The Signature baskets are a woven bamboo with a red ribbon around it. It can be used any time, which is amazing. Many of the others are either a felt or a faux suede, which are seasonless as well. Hell, I have a feeling that we might keep out the Fall giftsets, as there is more variety there. (Rainkissed Leaves)

Of course, we have a buttload of LE products…and this is what we have so far.

Holiday Traditions are back! Joining Vanilla Bean Noel and Winter Candy Apple is Twisted Peppermint, the most popular of the Temptations. The first forms to launch were the lotion, shower gel, body spray, and body cream, as well as Home Fragrance (sorry, no Twisted Peppermint), giftsets, and soap/lotion caddies (which are the body lotion and shower gel in pump bottle form…). Also there are figural soaps…I am jonesing after the penguin with Winter Candy Apple. The nice thing is that when you are done with the soap in there, you can fill it with whatever you like. I normally use the foaming soaps…however the penguin is SOOOOOOO damn cute. Coming for Holiday 2, we have a bath fizzy, a scrub (both Twisted Peppermint), bath parfait (WCA/VBN), and a shimmer roll-on fragrance. Maybe more stuff, but who knows.

The reason why Twisted Peppermint has no 3/1 is because it joined Holiday Traditions, and they came out with a kids line! The kids line-with blueberry, strawberry kiwi, and gumball fragrances-has 3/1’s, and they are a lot more kid-friendly as far as the fragrances go. That’s not gonna stop me though from buying a few of the 3/1 to use as a shampoo, however. Aside from the 3/1, there’s a lip balm (on keychain), a shimmer spray, a swirl lotion (hello Art Stuff!), a foaming hand soap, and then shapeable foam soap…yes, soap you can shape. All of the prices are very reasonable-$6.50 for most of the individual product-and if you spend $15, you can get a little penguin backpack for $10.

There’s two new limited Aromatherapy blends. The Warm Milk/Honey fragrance that launched in September is joined by new Black Chamomile, a sleep detox blend that I am OBSESSED with. I am definitely stocking up on the mineral salts because I do love a good bath soak, and I want to see if it will help with my sleep problems. Only thing is that usually when I do take a sleep bath, I end up staying on the computer for at least an hour or so afterwards, so that negates the whole purpose of the sleep bath. It also has pillow mist, lotion, body wash, and luxury bath. When this goes clearance, I will be all over it. It was selling like hotcakes on Monday-with no deals. When it goes clearance, it will go faster than Le Couvent did. And of course…you can’t have Aromatherapy sleep without Lambie! Lambie is back, with more Lambie goodness than ever. You can get little ornaments in either cream with brown tips, or black. Also the large lambie, the eye mask, ballerina slippers, and blanket come in the black. Yes, the blanket is back…and at a straight price of $35, it is harder to resist. I will pounce on one this year, because last year I missed out…and the black is cuter anyways. Plus I am in need of a good blanket after all!

It’s not necessarily new, but the SPA Shea Cashmere line is going to be HUGE for the holidays. I took my little hand cream of it to church today, and everyone who tried it was a big fan of it. There are loads of giftsets with it, as well as the cashmere robe. It’s definitely the first indication that this isn’t going to be a typical Christmas…it is about pure, unabashed luxury.

We have the Sweetest Softest stuff back-robes (this year with two new features-sewn-in ties, as well as a hood), neckwraps, eyemasks, headbands, slippers, and of course, the socks. 14 colours to be exact. The robes this year are also at a straight price point-$39.50. It’s definitely a lot less daunting than say, that with a $25 purchase-and you have to spend $25 per robe. The robe is definitely softer this year…but I don’t need one. I liked last year’s colours a lot better.

18 NEW LIPGLOSSES!!!! Yes, a makeup addict loves the sound of this. 3 new Liplicious dual-end sticks (one end is a sugar buffer, the other is a creamy rich colour), 3 gloss duos (with two flavours/colours of gloss), 3 plumper duos (with two colours/flavours of plumper), 3 gloss/stain duos (one side is a lip stain, the other is a sheer gloss coat), and then a dual-end shimmer. Then in Bigelow, there is a Ginger Mentha (gold shimmer and ginger extract), and the new Soda Fountain flavours/colours. These have more colour than the tints, plus shimmer like the frosties from last year, and flavours too. The Hot Fudge is a brown that is as close to a true chocolate smell as I have ever smelled from a gloss. The Vanilla Butterscotch is a champagne gold with shimmer, that does taste like true butterscotch. The Strawberry is definitely that…we’re talking strawberry milkshake, not true strawberry…but I love me some milkshakes (and have to avoid, because my Frap takes all my drinkable dessert calories). Finally there is the marshmallow, which is a pale silvery-pink with shimmer and definitely is sweet LIKE a marshmallow. Since I cannot eat marshmallows (the gelatin) this is as close as I will get.

Finally, the Perfect Christmas is back too. Four fragrances-Tree, Spice, Winter, and Frosted Cranberry-in a variety of forms, this year including reeds. The candles this year come in boxes with cutouts on the top, so you can very feasibly fragrance a closet with them. I would with the Winter… Also, the candles themselves are in a very nondescript little jar, with no label on the front, so that it coordinates with any decor. The scented Tealites are back as well, and they will sell out. They also come with fragrant reeds, which is a step in the right direction for the company in my eyes, since people want reeds (no electricity, flame, or battery required…and they fragrance an entire room) for a variety of reasons.

In addition, we have new Luxe EDT sprayers for Black Amethyst, JCB, and Velvet Tuberose. It’s one ounce of the perfume, in a faux-animal textured sprayer. Perfect for travel, so you don’t have to tote all 2.5 ounces of perfume in your purse.

Holiday 2 starts on the 3rd of November, and we are getting in lots more fun stuff. In addition to more Holiday Traditions, there will be more lipglosses, more giftsets, more everything. I think the main difference between that Floorset and now is that there will be more giftset tables. Also Black Friday will be insane.
